Auto Download File from Text Message and Deleted its Own Log Entry

I received a text message that went into SPAM and Blocked log.

  1. I clicked on the text message to Delete it from the Log.
  2. However, it instantly began downloading a file that I could not stop. Note: the text message app never identified an attached file (like it normally does).
  3. When download completed (assumed it completed) – the text message automatically deleted it’s entry information from my phone (from the text message application).
  4. I also checked my cellular service and they do not have an entry there either.
  5. I have Norton 360 on my Android.  Ran updates/scans and restarted phone numerous times.

I am concerned, anyone have any ideas on next steps?

Did you resolve your issue with installing Norton in this post?   https://community.norton.com/en/forums/norton-looping-log-page-android

Did your Norton app not working coincide with your issue with the text message?

From the main 360 Android screen, pull down to initiate a scan of your device. If nothing is found, I would suggest installing and running the Malwarebytes apps.  https://play.google.com/store/search?q=malwarebytes+android+free&c=apps

Thank you peterweb.

Prior to installing Malwarebyes, I noticed that a few of my contacts had been deletd and one of my apps had it's password changed. I did instal Malwarebytes. It found several issues which Malwarbytes quickly fixed.

Thank you so much for the great advice!

I forgot to answer our questions.

Norton has been installed on my phone for several years.

Norton did not seem to catch the TextMsg downloading automaticaly.

It seems that Malwarebytes found five issues which it quickly fixed (at least from what I can tell).

Thank you again for the great advice!  I feel much better now.

What did Malwarebytes find?

Did you resolve your issue reinstalling Norton 360 on your device?

Re: Auto Download File from Text Message and Deleted its Own Log Entry

I installed Malwarebytes for the first time and it found 5 issues. Unfortunately I didn't capture what they were (am new to the app) - instead I had it immediately resolve the findings (Sorry I did not think of checking first).

Prior to installing Malwarebytes, a password was changed to one of my apps and several contacts were deleted. I have now taken precautionary steps to locking those apps up. I haven't noticed anything weird going on since then.

I did not reinstall Norton 360. Norton didn't catch these issues.
