NPM Vault Unlock returns "Incorrect vault password" on Android after Windows change

I changed NPM vault password via Windows 11 Edge and re-entered the same vault password multiple times to perform NPM starts and vault exports with no problems. On my Android Pixel 6, I logged in with a new Norton account password which I had previously rolled on my Windows environment. But I could not get the Android NPM to accept either the old or new vault password. The message I get is "Incorrect vault password" - but the password hint matches the string that I entered when I changed the vault password on Windows! I've rebooted both the Windows and Android boxes and logged out and back in on Norton environments.

Before I delete and re-install NPM on the Android phone, does anyone have any less aggressive strategies to resolve this?

Android 13 running NPM 8.2.0

Ther are major bugs in that version of Android and password manager. Android 13 and Norton 360 also got major bugs

@globus5000

What are the bugs you have mentioned? Please elaborate for those who have Android 13 and NPM.

Re: NPM Vault Unlock returns "Incorrect vault password" on Android after Windows change

I resolved this by:

  • Signed out of NPM (which was the only active option since I could never get the vault PW accepted)
  • Deleted NPM via Pixel 6 Android Settings App service
  • Rebooted Pixel 6.
  • Logon to Norton 360 with useridemail and password (the account PW had been recently changed but had successfully logged in on Android before, after which trying to change the vault PW revealed an issue)
  • Selected "Password Manager" in Norton 360 settings flyout which automatically brought up the Google Play page for NPM
  • Selected "Install" and "Open" Google Play options for NPM (version 8.2.0 installed is same as version I was having issues with)
  • Logon to NPM with Norton 360 useridemail and password
  • Enter recently changed vault PW, which was accepted without any problems.

I'll note that I changed the Norton 360 account password and the vault password via Windows 11 Edge, then went to my Android to re-logon with the new Norton 360 account PW (which worked) and could not get the vault PW entered. Maybe I should have performed the Norton 360 account change on both Windows and Android environments first before playing with the vault PW? Norton 360 hides the vault PW in the Pixel 6 hardware to support vault PW reset - does the Norton 360 account password get used to encrypt the vault PW?  Next year, I'll do these as separate tasks - maybe separate days - let the techno dust settle a bit before I make a real mess of it.....
