Problems with Norton Security Toolbar and Google Chrome
I have several annoying problems with Norton Security Toolbar (2018.14.1.172) and Google Chrome (66.0.3359.181, 64 bit), running Windows 10 (64 bit, version 1803, build 17134.48):
- Many web pages fail to completely load.
- The CPU and memory consumption of the Toolbar are often pretty significant.
The same problems occurred with many previous versions of the Toolbar and Chrome; I only recently determined that the Toolbar was the cause.

The third issue is additional; I noticed it running http://www.largeformatphotography.info/sunmooncalc/. The application has several child forms that load values saved in the main form; after the Toolbar has been enabled for a while, the child forms fail to open when the appropriate buttons are clicked. Diagnostics from the Chrome console are nonsense, complaining about undefined objects that are clearly defined in the code.
I’ve had problems with logins and features of some other sites; I haven’t attempted diagnostics.
In all cases, disabling the Toolbar and refreshing affected pages eliminates the problems.
In a sense, there is a workaround: leave the Toolbar disabled until it’s really needed, then enable it for as long as it’s needed, and again disable it. But this is pretty clunky; it seems to me it shouldn’t be necessary.
