Ghost 15 hangs up while reconciling volume

Using Windows 7 64-bit: Ghost is set up for creating a new "My Computer" restore point weekly, with incremental runs each day. The process will run reliably for a few weeks, and then (apparently) suddenly stop. I say "apparently becaust this is my wife's laptop we're talking about, and I don't find out about it until I go to do "periodic maintenance." When I try to run a manual backup, it hangs at 1% while "Reconciling volume". Tried repairing -- no change. In the past, I've resorted to un- and re-installing the program entirely.

Supplemental: If, after a couple hours (!) it does finish reconciling, then it hangs up at 5% while "Creating recovery point." I realize Ghost 15 is beyond EOL, but, as I've said here recently, (when it works) it does everything I want.

Sounds like the PC is having dirty shutdowns... not powered down properly. You might want to run chkdsk and defag the drive to see if that helps.

Thanks -- I'll give chkdsk a try. Not sure if I can defrag, though -- it's an SSD and, when I went to use Speeddisk, it recommended against proceeding because of that.

I may have stumbled on something! When I looked in the log, I saw sn entry saying "SynSnap service is not enabled for this volume." Checking Services iin Administrative Tools, I found it set for "Manual." Changed to "Automatic" and have had two successful backups already, plus two restarts without being hung on "Shutting Down." Keeping my fingers crossed! Oh, going back, chkdsk had come up clean.

Nope! Worked for a while, then back to 5% freeze, and associated Shutting Down freeze. BTW, I just noted in another thread to run chkdsk /r, not just chkdsk. Will be trying that.

Still looking for ideas: ran chkdsk /R on both source and destination drives -- no problems detected on either. What's most annoying is -- I've got two Toshiba laptops, both running Windows 7 64-bit. Ghost's on both (two separate licenses!) and runs flawlessly on one (mine, of course), and this problem manifests itself only on the other (my wife's). We run similar software, and perform similar tasks. The only notable difference is I'm running 7 Pro while hers has 7 Home Premium.
