Norton Smart Scan does not work

Is Norton Smart Scan just a scam?  I've noticed lately that Norton has started this hard push to sell stuff and apparently not offering the same assurance of high quality support as it had in the past.  Smart scan does not work.  It gets to the end and I hit "results" and it goes no where.  If it doesn't work I don't want it, and it appears I don't need some of the other features since I can't see any benefit.
