Malicious website

I installed Norton 360 on my android today. After scanning, it found a malicious website. I tapped the button so that I don't visit the website. But the real question is… how do I remove this website from my phone? Where is it located so I can delete it? Norton obviously found it somewhere… why isn't Norton telling me where it was found so I can remove/delete it? Or… why doesn't the Norton 360 program ask if you'd like Norton to remove it? Since it's a threat, I should be removing it from my phone… not keeping it!

I cleared my browser history in Chrome, restarted the phone, and ran the scan again. The malicious website was still detected. Why isn't Norton providing a way to delete the malicious website off my phone?

Re: Malicious website

This actually solved the problem. Apparently, I'm guessing that Norton is hanging on to the message, even though the malicious website was removed. I don't understand why Norton 360 continues to publish the malicious website detection when in fact it's been deleted. I'm not a computer genius but I do understand the basics of what's going on here and it sounds like you are correct. The programming for Norton 360 needs a fix/revision programming code correction. Thank you for all of your help. I really appreciate it very much. The next question is… how does this programming error get reported to Norton? I'm kind of surprised that other people aren't experiencing this.

Re: Malicious website

A website is not on your phone, it is on the internet. So there is nothing for Norton to remove. What details are given for the web site being detected?

Clearing Chrome history is a good start, but may not be enough. Try going into Android Settings - Apps. Scroll to the Chrome app and clear the app cache and app Data. Restart the device. Then test to see if a malicious web site is still detected.  If it is, try clearing the app data for the default Android web browser on your device.

Re: Malicious website

The malicious website information given just states the name of the website and the time and date it got on to my phone. I tried your suggestions and then restarted the phone and it still doesn't remove the problem website when I re-scan my phone. Norton is obviously finding some sort of a link to this website on my phone but it won't give me a way to remove the link. It kind of defeats the purpose of getting Norton so I'm gonna try to see if I can get a refund and go with a better web/virus protection service.

Re: Malicious website

What is the website being detected? It could be related to an app on your phone that is phoning home for updates or possibly it is sending other data that you might not want sent.

Re: Malicious website

Again, Norton is not finding anything on your phone, it is blocking access to the website it is detecting as malicious.

Is this site detected if you do not start your browser before running the Norton scan after restarting the phone?

If it is only when you are using your browser, it sounds like it may be a malicious ad on a site you are visiting, that are trying to redirect your browser to the site you noted. Is there a site you visit all the time when using your phone? Maybe your Home Page has some ads that are causing this issue. If this is what is happening, Norton does not block browser redirects because many websites use them for legitimate purposes. Norton uses them all the time.

To try to stop these redirects, install an ad blocker app to your device.

Re: Malicious website

After clearing all the caches and data, I then restarted my phone. Immediately after the restart, I scanned the phone again, before opening anything. Norton detected the malicious website again. My Internet Web browser is Chrome and my homepage on Chrome is google.com. I have cleared the cache, data, and history. There is nothing nefarious about anything that I am doing. This website found its way on to my phone last night. I was reading comments on a Fox News article on Facebook and someone posted a link to the YouTube video regarding the news article. I clicked on the link to see the news video and that's when it happened. I'm presuming somebody put in a fake/malicious YouTube link. There is obviously some remnants of it on my phone and I want to find out where this website is hiding on my phone so I can delete it. Do you know why Norton will find something malicious on your phone but Norton will not allow you to delete it? That makes no sense to me.

Re: Malicious website

I'm starting to wonder if this may be related to an issue I am seeing with 360 on my Windows computer. Every time I start my system I get a message from Norton about a detection that was removed over a week ago. It seems that there is something in the programming of 360 that is not clearing some bit that tells the system that it has already shown the message.

Try going into Android Settings - Apps. Scroll to the 360 app and clear the app cache and app Data. Restart the device. This will reset your 360 to a trial version. To get the full version back, open the 360 app, then tap Sign In to log into your Norton Account. Enter your Norton Account information and you should have the full version again.

Then scan your phone again after a restart.

Re: Malicious website

As a forum guru, I have access to some Norton contacts. I have already passed this along about my Windows experience. I'll add your experience with the Android app.

Thanks for your help with diagnosing this.
