Why is Norton SafeWeb Scanner for Facebook being discontinued?

We have released a patch for Norton Identity Safe which contains a fix for a browser protection issue and a Firefox 44 compatible extension.  This update is for all Norton products v22.5.5.15 – Norton 360, Norton Internet Security, Norton Security, Norton Security with Backup Norton Antivirus, Norton Security Suite. This patch is available via LiveUpdate to customers with a current subscription.

We have released a Limited Compatibility patch for the Norton Toolbar which contains Firefox 43 compatible signed extension for Norton Security 22.5.5.15, Norton Security with Backup 22.5.5.15, Norton Internet Security, Norton 360, Norton Antivirus 22.5.5.15, Norton Security Suite 22.5.5.15. Dear Norton Firefox Toolbar users,

As we previously announced, Firefox recently removed support for APIs (Application Programming Interfaces) that Norton was using communicate securely between the Norton product and the Norton extension for Firefox.  This was a fundamental component of our design; hence changing this is a big project for Norton.

The Norton Toolbar now has limited compatibility with Firefox 41 & 42. Web-Protection functionalities are enabled, but the VAULT feature is not available with this update. We will be releasing another compatibility update to restore VAULT features to the Norton Toolbar on Firefox 41 & 42.

The Norton Toolbar is now compatible with Firefox 33. We have released a Firefox 33 compatibility patch for Norton Security 22.0.1, Norton Security with Backup 22.0.1. The patch is also available for the Norton Internet Security, Norton 360 21.6, Norton 2013, Norton 2012 and Norton Identity Safe standalone products which is available via LiveUpdate.

We have released a Norton Toolbar 2014.7.8.25 update for Norton Identity Safe Standalone to support the Google Chrome policy change that discontinues the use of NPAPI (Netscape Plugin API) technology. The Norton Toolbar extension update for Norton 21.6 products is released for all customers today in Google chrome store. This patch is released as a part of Norton 21.6 update which is available via LiveUpdate. Once the Norton Toolbar extension named “Norton Toolbar Security” has been updated to version 2014.7.8.25, then the Norton 21.6 patch may be applied via LiveUpdate. These two Norton Toolbar Update for Google Chrome and Norton 21.6 product update  work in concert to bring the user up to the latest and greatest support for Chrome.

Our next update to Norton Identity Safe will include important changes for Google Chrome customers. New requirements from Google make it mandatory for customers to download separate browser extensions in order to re-enable each function of the Norton Security Toolbar.
