We have released a Limited Compatibility patch for the Norton Toolbar which contains Firefox 43 compatible signed extension for Norton Security 22.5.5.15, Norton Security with Backup 22.5.5.15, Norton Internet Security, Norton 360, Norton Antivirus 22.5.5.15, Norton Security Suite 22.5.5.15. This patch is available via LiveUpdate to customers with a current subscription.

As we previously announced, Firefox recently removed support for APIs (Application Programming Interfaces) that Norton was using communicate securely between the Norton product and the Norton extension for Firefox.  This was a fundamental component of our design; hence changing this is a big project for Norton.

Norton Security 7.0 for Mac

Few visible changes with this release:

The Norton Toolbar now has limited compatibility with Firefox 41 & 42. Web-Protection functionalities are enabled, but the VAULT feature is not available with this update. We will be releasing another compatibility update to restore VAULT features to the Norton Toolbar on Firefox 41 & 42.

The Norton Family team has released updates to Windows client 3.4.0.45 via Automatic LiveUpdate. When the update is available to your machine via LiveUpdate, you will need to reboot your device to make the program install successfully.  To find if you have the latest version, please click the Norton Family icon in the system tray and select “About Norton Family”.

Over the last couple of months we have been noticing a lot of reports connecting an Intrusion Prevention System (IPS) “Outbound Traffic Detected” alert to a recommendation to run Norton Power Eraser and so I’ve spent some time investigating the issue and have discovered a few issues. Some we have already fixed and another fix is coming shortly. I wanted to take this opportunity to share with you what I discovered and what fixes we are putting in place.

Tomorrow’s planned update of Firefox by Mozilla (version 41) will include significant changes that will impact how certain extensions are able to work with Firefox. Unfortunately, the Norton Toolbar extension will temporarily be incompatible with Firefox 41.
