Scan exclusions just won't work

Hi,

I've got some executables that sonar just won't leave the hell alone (to be specific, they are example exe files for the anti-grain geometry library).  I have absolutely very definitely gone to scan exclusions and entered the folder into the scan exclusions AND real time protection exlusions BUT when I try to run any of the examples that load images from the same folder the take 20 seconds to load up if sonar is active, but if I deactivate sonar they load instantly.

I don't want to have to completely disable sonar because then nortons is bright scarlet red everytime I have to open it (it's constantly nagging me about something) and it's icon down in the status tray flashes an annoying little red cross in the corner of my eye.

Why oh why won't it just leave files in folders in the exlusion list alone???

(p.s. if you tell me to add the folder to the scan exlusions and real time protection exclusions list after I've very clearly stated above that I have already done that I will most definitely resond in a less than friendly manner).

Re: Scan exclusions just won't work

Hi ultramedia:

See if the post by dbrisendine in this thread helps your situation.  I will see if I can find some other options or workarounds as well if this doesn't solve the problem.  Not sure if a directory exclusion will help but it did solve the issue for some of the developers.

Are the files actually being quarantined?  Apparently the only way to add them to Sonar exclusions for the time being is to allow Sonar to quarantine them, and then add them to exclusions through the quarantine options.  Hopefully, this will improve in the next version.  Symantec has added Sonar exclusions to NIS 2011.

Another creative solution:

If you are forced to disable Sonar while you work, check to see if there is a small i beside the Sonar setting.  You will be able to set that to "ignore" which will solve the warning, at least.

Another developer added the path to the folder he wanted to protect to scan and auto exclusions and it worked for him.

This has been an ongoing problem for some time.

Configuring scans in Norton 360 Version 4.0 to exclude specific drives, folders or files

Add exclusion to Auto-Protect and Risk scan

1. Start Norton 360.

2.Click Settings.

3.Click Antivirus.

4.On the Scans and Risks tab, under Exclusion/Low Risks, click Configure next to Scan Exclusions.

5.Under Scan Exclusions, click Add.

6.Browse and select the disk drive or folder or file you would like to exclude and click OK.

If you want to include subfolders within the folder, check Include Subfolders.

7.Click OK.

8.Under Real Time Protection Exclusions, click Add.

9.Browse and select the disk drive or folder or file you would like to exclude and click OK.

If you want to include subfolders within the folder, check Include Subfolders.

10.Click OK.

11.In the Scan Exclusions window, click Apply > OK.

12.In the Settings window, click Apply > Close.

Re: Scan exclusions just won't work

Hi,

Please be sure to disable "Auto protect " , "Sonar" and "Norton Smart Firewall" for more than one hour before excluding the files.

After excluding the files, please restart your computer.

Best Regards,
