Different Prices, Same Product!

I am still confuzzled at the different prices of Norton Internet Security.

I'm up for renewal (no doubt I will be renewing), and I live in Australia.

If I pretend I'm in the United States, I get a cheaper price than if I say I'm in Australia. Yet if I buy it at a local computer store, the product gets cheaper again.

What further shocks me is that when I buy it online, I'm not receiving anything but electronic product delivery. When I buy it at the store, I get  the physical boxed Norton, as well as a diary and 5gb online backup.

Re: Different Prices, Same Product!

Hi mjthompson:

From country to country, you are dealing with trade agreements, tariffs, import taxes, and exchange, all of which change the price.  The price can also change depending on what the resellers do.  They can sell it for less, or purchase special versions, like the Comcast version of N360 that is provided to their customers for free.

Symantec is the only one actually limited as to how much of a discount they can offer as they can't undersell their resellers.  It makes for considerable confusion.  When you renew, you pay a bit more, but it is more convenient than shopping, and you don't lose any days.

Thanks.

Norton is the first product/service that I've seen that charge more for renewal. But I see your point about the convenience.

Re: Different Prices, Same Product!

mjt,

From what I think I've seen some Australian users say, if you go through to the actual order section of online purchasing when linked to the US website and seeing it in US Dollars it may switch the currency to your local one ......

If you do order on line perhaps you'll let us know what happens.

But the cheapest way, even where you are, is to purcahse when it's on sale and stockpile to use the KEY when you need it.

Someone reported back a little while ago that they'd bought NIS 2010 for AUS$5 on sale and when it was checked out not to be fraudulent bought 4 copies! You can use an earlier key to renew a later version .......

Re: Different Prices, Same Product!

Thanks for the reply Hugh,

Well what do you know the sale ended yesterday :-(

I will probably renew online - but I might possibly update to Norton 360 rather than continue using Internet Security.

I never tune up my computers so maybe it would be a good idea to let 360 do the work for me...And it is like $5 more expensive...

At the moment the Australian dollar is better than US dollar so I was shocked to see it is more expensive when you say you are in Australia, I wonder if the money is just going to different people (Symantec Australia).

So I will say I'm in U.S.

Hello

Will your credit card also be from the USA and show that the purchase was made in the USA?
