Trying to access ebay motors page

I have been trying to view/bid on a motorohome on ebay but Norton is saying that Ebay Motors's listing is a  fraudulant webpage. All of the items that I tried to access in ebay motors has the same message. Anyone else?

Re: Trying to access ebay motors page

I have the same problem. It was OK this morning at 6:30 am CDT, but I can't get to it now - AND I HAVE THE HIGH BID!

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=110257567460&ssPageName=ADME:X:RTQ:MOTORS:1123

One of my computers can access without problems, but the other one can't...

Ditto to all.  Any eBay Motors page comes up as fraudulent, although can be bypassed by choosing to ignore.

Here is one link, although any item within eBay Motors will return the same fraud alert.

Re: Trying to access ebay motors page

hi tallt - i have the same thing (one that says fradulant and one that does not) - i ran LiveUpdate on both and now the one that didn't report as fradulant is coming up positive.

i submitted the page to this site:

https://submit.symantec.com/antifraud/false_positive.cgi

Tony indicated in another unrelated thread that updates for anti-phishing can occur several times a day, so i'd recommend to continue running LiveUpdate every hour or so until it the site is clear.

Re: Trying to access ebay motors page

I don't do eBay but I went to the links given in messages here without any warnings even if I clicked on links within the initial pages.

I'm using NIS2008 and updated it manually about an hour ago when two critical intrusion engine updates came down -- FWIW

Re: Trying to access ebay motors page

Yes I was logged in and when trying to view any of the listed items in Ebay motors I got the same message. "Fraudulant Webs Page Blocked" Regular Ebay has no problem just in Ebay motors.

Here is one of the links that I was trying to open/view .

LINK

I have Norton Internet Security Version 10.1.0.26

OS is Vista Premium

I'm not clear on the solution.  I ran LiveUpdate just now and still get the same false posivite for a fraudulent page (only on eBay Motors).

Could you provide the specific URL that is causing this false positive? Thanks!

Re: Trying to access ebay motors page

There is now a LiveUpdate solution available, which will prevent the site from being flagged as a fraudulent website. Please run LiveUpdate and then visit the sites again. Let me know if this has resolved the problem for you all. Thanks!

New twist, when visiting the site from the link within this forum, no fraud alert.  But when visiting the site from within eBay motors the fraud alert is still there.

That fits in with my experience on all the links in messages here ....

Disregard previous post.  Fraud alert comes up all the time.

Re: Trying to access ebay motors page

When you view the details of what was downloaded and installed with LiveUpdate, does it list "Website Authentication Definitions"? This should have downloaded and installed already for you. Is anyone else still seeing this problem with the website, with the authentication definitions applied to their Norton product?

You're right, this doesn't seem to be fixed. We're checking out the problem further, and I'll let you know when there's an update on this issue. Thanks again!

I do not see the "Website Athentication Definitions", but perhaps I am looking in the wrong place.

Re: Trying to access ebay motors page

The false postive is not from the URL directly but from the Iframe of the URL where the description is hosted. On some Motors listings on the eBay site they have a new format and have an iframe. The actual description is hosted on a different URL.

 http://www.auctionbytes.com/cab/abn/y08/m04/i15/s03

eBay is apparently testing another initiative on eBay Motors to limit fraud on the site. Some listings are loading descriptions in a frame that are being served from vi.ebaydesc.com rather than cgi.ebay.com. By moving the listing description to its own domain, eBay can supposedly limit hackers' ability to use HTML and javascript to overlay other images or text on top of real eBay pages. Reportedly, if the initiative is successful, it could roll out to all eBay Motors listings by June.

Its the URL beginning with vi.ebaydesc.com that is the false positive I believe

Hope that helps

Re: Trying to access ebay motors page

That explains why I am having issues. I use a competitors Internet security software on my laptop and didn't have any problems with it. Wonder why it didn't pick up on the false positive and Norton did? FYI I am now  able to veiw listings in Ebay motors with NIS. Not sure if ebay fixed it or if the good people here did.

I really appreciate all the help from this forum . I wish I knew more about URL's and false positives, iframes etc. Perhaps if I did I would have to ask stupid questions and would be able to fix my own problems, or at least understand why I am having them.......

Thanks Again!

I apologize for not posting sooner. Another LiveUpdate fix was sent out to resolve the problem. Please let me know if NIS still reports it as a fraudulent site. Thanks!

Re: Trying to access ebay motors page

I ran LiveUpdate and am still getting a Fraudulent Web Page Blocked message. Also, on the ebay motors auctions that I can get into I only get the top part of the auction page with no image of the item and cannot see any of the details of the auction. What should I do now????????????

Fraudulent Web Page Blocked

FWIW that URL does not post here as a valid link as usually is the case and when I pasted it into my address box in IE7 it contained a lot of invalid characters and IE7 failed to get anywhere. And yet when I paste it in here it appears OK:

http: //promo.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewCategoryLis t&storeid=2856126&downgradeDomain=true

although there is a space after the s in List

Removing the corruption manually in the address box did take my to eBay but it was very slow loading the first image and I gave up.
