Hi ,
I do not need Norton toolbar on Firefox 33.1.1 so I keep it disabled.I also disabled the Identity protection feature.I just don't need it.Now I'm frequently getting popus from Norton (slides from bottom-left corner of the screen). Is there any way to disable it ? When I go to "Identity" settings the "Norton Toolbar" has an orange button that says "Configure". The "Identity Safe" says 'Off'.I'm trying to disable only that popup but keep the virus detection related popups.Thanks.

Re: Permanently remove Norton popup that reminds about toolbar installation ?
I've had 2 remote sessions so far with the Live Chat, everytime all they do is enable the extension in Firefox then disable it, but randomly, after like 24 hours, the popup comes again
I even noticed recently it has a "don't ask me again" link at the bottom. I clicked it, but it does ask me again and is super annoying :(
Please help

Re: Permanently remove Norton popup that reminds about toolbar installation ?
I don't use Firefox very much but I don't have the Norton Toolbar set up in it and I don't get any nagging popups.
In Internet Explorer I just disable all three add-ons that are listed in Tools / Manage Add-Ons but I can't find any such function in Firefox via the Options or anything else. I can't even find out how I would enable the Norton Toolbar in Firefox if I wanted it!
All this is with Norton Internet Security V21 and Windows 7 Home Premium 32 bit.
What are you using?
Re: Permanently remove Norton popup that reminds about toolbar installation ?
I'm using the latest Norton Security. If you go to Firefox Tools>Addons>Extensions you should see Norton Toolbar.I enabled then disabled it again but that didn't help.
Re: Permanently remove Norton popup that reminds about toolbar installation ?
Try adding Turn Off Identity Safe in Settings > Apply
If you Disable the Tool Bar you'll loose site warnings. I would try it and see but, I don't want the risk.
You may still get full page blocks but, I imagine you'll loose site safety status...someone has to know for sure
Chat with Norton Support you have an obvious compatibility issue which Norton should acknowledge, advise and fix. If you not report how will they know. $.02
Re: Permanently remove Norton popup that reminds about toolbar installation ?
I use FF so rarely that that I forget to look at the bottom for the "menu bar" that is at the top in IE ! Thanks for making me find it.
I see it only shows Norton Toolbar as a single item whereas in IE there are three separate Norton add-ons ....
Re: Permanently remove Norton popup that reminds about toolbar installation ?
FF lost NVP with direct injection. IE retained as Disabled.
FF only ever had two add-ons ~ Toolbar and NVP
IE likes to show off......see me I have three
Have no idea re Chrome
Re: Permanently remove Norton popup that reminds about toolbar installation ?
Disabling Norton Toolbar does indeed have impact on the security.Without the toolbar some malicious sites aren't blocked.I tested this by visiting an actual bad site that was hosting a trojan. The site was not blocked but the download was blocked by the local scanning engine. With Toolbar enabled I received a warning instead of the site but the malicious file was still downloaded so the site itself isn't completely blocked. If the toolbar was more customizable I would love to keep it.It doesn't really make sense to put a Norton logo next to every single search result.Wouldn't it make sense to put a red warning sign only if the link was malicious ?
Re: Permanently remove Norton popup that reminds about toolbar installation ?
Interesting observation and Kudos for testing Toolbar
So, Toolbar is confirmed for sure absolutely is a security feature and imo recommended to run with it.....if U can't... get a refund and use another product. Time they fixed that buggy thing.
two cents
Re: Permanently remove Norton popup that reminds about toolbar installation ?
I can live without the Toolbar, that's not an issue, as long as it doesn't display the annoying popup reminders. It hasn't done so for almost 10 hours now so fingers crossed.I'll contact the tech support if it starts happening again.
Re: Permanently remove Norton popup that reminds about toolbar installation ?
I don't mind using the toolbar if it doesn't take so much real estate in my Firefox! The thing is horrible! bigger then the URL bar even! so distracting!
Re: Permanently remove Norton popup that reminds about toolbar installation ?
Maximus_666,
You can hide any toolbar in Firefox and still keep it running.Right click on the right side of your last tab, on an empty area(above address bar) and un-check the Norton Toolbar. That will hide the toolbar without disabling it.
Re: Permanently remove Norton popup that reminds about toolbar installation ?
ahh ok! thanks a lot! that did the trick :)
Re: Permanently remove Norton popup that reminds about toolbar installation ?
I'm still getting the annoying popups. Can someone from Norton developer team please tell us if Norton is considering to remove this feature or at least allow us to disable it in future updates ?
Re: Permanently remove Norton popup that reminds about toolbar installation ?
What browser
Re: Permanently remove Norton popup that reminds about toolbar installation ?
Firefox 34.The toolbar and Identity Safe is disabled.
Re: Permanently remove Norton popup that reminds about toolbar installation ?
You need the Toolbar enabled to have protection Permalink
You purchased a suite with a Toolbar.
Re: Permanently remove Norton popup that reminds about toolbar installation ?
I do not want to use the toolbar, that's why I wanted to know if there was a way to keep it disabled and not get the popups.I use lots of search on daily basis. The toolbar adds unnecessary buttons everywhere on the page. There are no robust settings for the toolbar unfortunately.
Re: Permanently remove Norton popup that reminds about toolbar installation ?
All search results are populated because vendors request their sites be rated. Those ratings carry over to search results. Along with SafeWeb Community rating sites and Norton rating sites. Those ratings populate to search results. Would be silly to rate a site and then not post the results. That why the Toolbar has SafeWeb built in. When you migrate to a site you have notice of status. Maybe you were not here when the Safety Icons disapperad in a version of FF. Oh Heck members were MAD. You may not want the rating. But, there were a lot of angry users for weeks.
Re: Permanently remove Norton popup that reminds about toolbar installation ?
Post your comments to the Product Suggestion Forum. No issue for me. I run FF and use the Vault and like the ratings.
That's why I run Norton. The Toolbar has been one size fits all for a long time. Customizable Toolbar ~ Product Suggestion
Re: Permanently remove Norton popup that reminds about toolbar installation ?
Thanks.I'll write a product suggestion.
Re: Permanently remove Norton popup that reminds about toolbar installation ?
If you don't want the toolbar taking up real estate, just uncheck it in your browser menu bar, if you have one.
Re: Permanently remove Norton popup that reminds about toolbar installation ?
I noticed a button that said "Do not ask me this question again" on the popup message.I don't know if it was there all the time or not, but after clicking it I haven't received the message.Maybe I missed it before.
Re: Permanently remove Norton popup that reminds about toolbar installation ?
Thanks I'll try to remember to pass that along
Re: Permanently remove Norton popup that reminds about toolbar installation ?
Re: Permanently remove Norton popup that reminds about toolbar installation ?
Firefox may Disable Toolbar via Tools > Add-ons or Hide Toolbar via View > Toolbars > Uncheck Norton Toolbar. There is NO remove.
Re: Permanently remove Norton popup that reminds about toolbar installation ?
Re: Permanently remove Norton popup that reminds about toolbar installation ?
Is Enable and Hide an option for you. The Toolbar Enabled does provide phishing and malicious website protection even when Hidden. Norton Toolbar is integral to Norton product features. Not an opt in option. I run the Toolbar so, not familiar with "don't show again". Sorry ! Others may have the solution you require...

Re: Permanently remove Norton popup that reminds about toolbar installation ?
PPNSteve, you can also go through your Norton settings, and uncheck any notifications you don't need/want.
That may fix your issue.
Re: Permanently remove Norton popup that reminds about toolbar installation ?
Re: Permanently remove Norton popup that reminds about toolbar installation ?
PPNSteve,
I did the following:
Norton Security main window > Settings > uncheck the box that says Identity Safe
Norton Security main window > Identity > now you should see Identity Safe = OFF
Disable the toolbar from Firefox and Chrome.
Norton Security main window > Norton Toolbar = Configure (it's currently OFF, that's why the orange link says Configure)
Next time the popup showed up, I chose Do Not Ask Again option and I haven't seen it for several months now.
Keep in mind that Norton Toolbar and Identity Safe provide additional protection against malicious websites so disabling them will reduce your protection.I found out that both options need to be disabled, not just the Norton Toolbar, in order for the popup to disappear.
I would use Norton Toolbar if it was less disruptive.Placing big-o-signs next to every single safe search link doesn't make sense to me.It should only notify about the bad links.Imagine you visit Facebook and you get a Norton message that says the site is safe. Then you visit CNN.com and the Norton sign says the site is safe to visit too. Then you visit gmail.com and the sign says it's safe...and so on.Does this make sense ? No.It should only warn if the site is not safe IMO.Pretty much any other security toolbar/addon that I've ever seen has this option, except for Norton.Hopefully the stuff is reading this.
