KB3024777

Hello, I am new to the post but I have been reading the posts regarding faulty KB3004394  earlier this week.  Unfortunately I installed all of them yesterday just before MS removed it from their server.  A few minutes ago I received a new "important" update KB3024777 ready to download but when I tried to find info on this download, no information comes up on it at Microsoft.  Has anyone else received this to download today?  Also I am unable to run command sfc/verifyonly as it says I must be administrator. How do I go about doing this?

I have not uninstalled KB3004394 yet as Microsoft forum recommends.  Should I uninstall the faulty update?  Is this new update KB3024777 a fix for the faulty one? I'm so disgusted with MS...I'm not a computer savvy person and all this is very stressful for me.

Re: KB3024777

Thank you bjm. I'll check these threads. But how do I go about being able to run command sfc/verifyonly?  I'm listed as user. How do I set myself up as administrator so I can run these commands.  I thought I was already set up as an administrator on my pc but command says I'm user.

Re: KB3024777

Information on KB3024777 can be found here:
You cannot install Windows updates after KB 3004394 is installed on Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2

KB3024777 is the new Windows update that removes the KB3004394 Windows Root Cert Patch for Win 7 delivered on 09-Dec-2014 that was revoked today by Microsoft (see the InfoWorld article here).

Re: KB3024777

Thank you Imacri for this information.  I know others who manually uninstalled KB3004394 posted earlier they thought there may have been residual issues after the uninstall so I have been hesitant to do anything.  I will apply KB3024777 and pray it removes it as the update indicates. I'm afraid to apply anything MS releases after the messes they have created for all of us in recent months. And I waited before downloading and installing the updates to insure there were no problems...guess I didn't wait long enough...(sigh).

Re: KB3024777

Update:  I bit the bullet and ran new update KB3024777 and it updated successfully with one reboot.   When I checked installed WU  list  KB3004394 is still showing as successful  install.  However when I checked my list of installed programs in Control Panel after applying KB3024777, KB3004394 is  no longer listed as an installed update.  So looks like KB3024777 successfully removed the nasty thing from my computer but why wouldn't it remove it from list in WU page?

Will  know for sure if everything is ok when next MS updates are released. I didn't notice any issues with it installed but didn't want to take any chances of it messing with future WU.

Re: KB3024777

Command Prompt opens for me but I'm showing as User and need to change to Administrator. Haven't had time to do that yet.

Command Prompt options don't allow me to change to Administrator.  How do I do that?

Krusty 13. Was able to run Command Prompt as Administrator. Ran command sfc/verifyonly. Results 100% "no intregity violations".  I'm thrilled!

When we talked about KB 3024777 yesterday there was only the OP post at Wilders ~ now info has been added to Wilders.

The KB3024777 is some kind of removal tool for the previous faulty KB3004394, it's 29kb in size and I hope that users who did not install or have uninstalled KB3004394, will not  "play" with their system integrity and attempt to install KB3024777.

It's only for users who still have the previous KB3004394 installed.

Cheers,

Re: KB3024777

Since my issue seems to be resolved, shall I mark this thread as solved?  Thank you to bjm and Imacri for your guidance and help.

Re: KB3024777

Basically when you check installed updates under WU it is looking at a history log of installs.

Under Program & Features Installed Updates it shows what is current.
