Norton Security 22.7 Full Scan Stuck

I recieved the product update today to 22.7 whatever the other numbers are. I did a quick scan it went fine. I ran a full system scan and it got stuck when it was almost finished.

Yes fast start is off and yes I restarted my machine because Norton asked me to after downloading the update from LiveUpdate.

Edit - I just clicked "Stop" and that's not working either. The task manager will not "End task" either.

Edit - After restarting my computer and trying to run full system scan again I got this as soon as I hit scan.

We have released a new Norton Security Scan Hot Fix to address "Full System Scan stops at a random file or folder" issue. This update is available via Live Update targeting Norton 22.7.0.76 products. Please run Live Update until all updates are installed and then check if the issue is resolved.

Note: This will not change the product version and requires system reboot.

Well, a few days ago, I finally ran a complete full scan. Since then, I haven't been able to again.  I have two internal hard drives and a couple of external drives. Each time the scan stops at a random file on the last drive to be checked. So I thought I would create a custom scan for just the internal drives and, guess what, the scan hung on the second of those!  I then did a scan on just the 'C' drive and it then hung on that.  Today it gave an indication of two possible  viruses on the C drive but because the scan would not complete, I had to reboot.  As we know, when the scan is then re-run it then completes the last bit. BUT it then had no indication of any virus.  I had to go in to the security history section and find the two files that  it showed up on the 'hung' scan (Sc0ab.msi and System Mechanic.msi.)  I do run System Mechanic and it is a brand new update.  I cannot find anything about Sc0ab.msi.  I then did a Power Eraser scan, which completed and showed no problem.  I am running a full scan again now and it is stuck on a wav file.   Just for info, I also ran a scan with Malwarebytes and a quick scan with the McAfee free-be, both showing clear. 

My partner's PC also has the same problem, but my laptop seems to be OK.  All running Windows 10 64bit.

So with this and the continuing problem of compatibility with Firefox, which has been ongoing for months,  I think it is time to say goodbye Norton, I have lost patience!  I have seen a special offer on McAfee and am off there now.

In addition to everything everybody's already listed, Windows will randomly notify me that Norton is out-of-date and needs to be updated, which is obviously very suspicious. I think Norton got hacked...

Symantec, this is really outrageous. You release a new version without checking it properly, and we get stuck with a defected product. It's almost a month now and you still didn't fix it

I have 44 days remaining on my subscription and I will certainly NOT renew it !!!

I've noticed that full scan hangs on a given file usually somewhere in the C:\Users\Public\Documents folder.

Not necessarily C:\Users\Public\Documents folder.

 That is, it hangs towards the end of the scan. In my case, in another folder, only 4-6 files before ending.

It hangs here C:\Users\SGFC\Music\iTunes\iTunes Media\Mobile Applications usually on a file with the .ipa extension.

But if you don't have iTunes it may hang elsewhere. Once it hung on a .jpg.

It usually hangs in the D:/ for me.  Sometimes it hangs on a file that tells my 3D printer how to print an object and sometimes it hangs in one of the files for The Witcher Enhanced Edition in my GOG folder.  I have had one or two hangs in initialisation, but usually it's in the D:/ folder for me.

This might have fixed the scan issue, but now Norton is using almost all of my CPU.

I'm having the same issue too. Normally I don't monitor the scan progress and don't notice the high CPU usage.

But today after the hot fix and before the hot fix my CPU usage looks like this;

So Norton & System and compressed memory are maxing out the CPU. I can't say if that's normal or not. I was able to work while the scan ran.

Another thing I noticed is the scan duration went down from 23 minutes 6 seconds to 14 minutes 48 seconds and scanned more files.

The full system scan completed as expected. I'll mark this resolved and post back if there's a problem again.

Yes! Also I was successful, but have long thought on file with the extension of the APK in the last 3 CD

Well done folks.

The work you do isn't glamorous. Support really is the armpit of any business, which means a customer rarely contacts you to say Thank you. There are plenty of other things you can be doing, but you show up here  (even though nobody can see you)

I did appreciate that quick scan and live update was always working to keep my PCs safe. And really... if this was the worst thing that ever happened, it'd be an easy life.

My confidence remains steadfast.
