Can't open Norton from task bar

After a live update today I can not open Norton security  from the icon in the task bar. Did a uninstall and reinstalled Norton. tried to open from the icon in task bar and opened fine, then did the live update to make sure I had all the updates after the reinstall. Tried to open again from the task bar and could not open!! It will open using the desktop short cut. Any fix or ideas

Re: Can't open Norton from task bar

Hello Tasman1

Has a Work-Around quicker than cold re-boot here:

The product has code for 32bit and 64 bit interface that runs in 32bit mode on a 64 bit system. Cold start up is random which one gets run. The Work-Around rolls the dice again. repeat as needed because. "IT AUTO RESTARTS"

My update today didn't have required re-boot. My last required one was 2016 09 10. Six days later 2016 09 16 had a product update that needed applications closed but no re-boot. My system is Win 7 Pro. Compaq HP Presario Amd Dual Core 3 gig memory. You got the post-beta product update lottery "Phased Release"

" ... As is our standard practice, we are deploying the patch in a phased manner. We have released the patch to randomly selected customers, and will then monitor our telemetry, as well as this forum, for any problems or issues.. .."

Re: Can't open Norton from task bar

Hi, tasman1. What is your operating system ? Have you rebooted ?

If you have Win 10, you need to perform a full shutdown for Norton to correctly operate.

Also it's a good idea to disable Fast Start Up as this is known to cause problems.

Re: Can't open Norton from task bar

I turned my computer off last night and when I started it up today the icon started to work again. I had rebooted many time before with no results so don't know what changed but all is good now .

Thanks for your reply

Re: Can't open Norton from task bar

No one should be running XP anymore unless the software you are using requires it. Using XP is an open security hole for hackers. Remember Microsoft shut off support for XP years ago. I highly suggest you upgrade.
