Norton Family Time Limits Not Working on PC

The Norton Family product has never consistently enforced time limits on my daughter's computer.  I have contacted support multiple times, removed all Norton products and reinstalled, upgraded operating systems, and done nearly everything else imaginable to get it to work but to no avail.  Today she was on the computer for 3.75 hours despite having a limit of 2.  I would like a DEFINITIVE SOLUTION to this problem or I will cancel as this is a waste of time and money trying to solve at this point.  Please advise!!

Re: Norton Family Time Limits Not Working on PC

Hi croutonboy

We have two different types of time blocking, hard-block (lock machine) and soft-block ( warn, but allow ). In the second case, the child can continue to use the machine after the allowed time is reached.

Could you please confirm which time blocking had been set for your child.

It is absolutely a hard block and always has been.

Hi croutonboy,

Can you please send me your Norton Family account email address & the child's profile name by private message via the forum by clicking Inbox at upper right hand corner?

Thanks

Re: Norton Family Time Limits Not Working on PC

Hi Croutonboy,

I have suffered the exactly same problem from Norton Family for long time, contacted its support team multiple times as well, but the problem never got resolved - wasted lots of time and money. So, have they eventually solved the problem for you? Thank you.

Re: Norton Family Time Limits Not Working on PC

Hi

The program does block the child account when the time is up and they can’t disable the program unless they have the account email and password.

What I’ve heard is some children login again & again using the few seconds right before the program logs them out.  One thing you can try is to add a complicated password for the child’s Windows account, so when the child logs back onto the PC diligently each time, it would create more work for the child to do it every few seconds.

Re: Norton Family Time Limits Not Working on PC

Also, multiple Norton Family features don't work for us.

1. the child's computer time is set to 1 hr each day, then we try to use feature "extend user time" to allow more time when needed, but by clicking "extend user time", only a white blank window pops up with nothing in it. So, "extend user time" feature DOESN'T WORK.

2. "Turn off Norton Family" feature doesn't work either in the similar fashion as above. After clicking the feature, a blank window pops up with nothing in it. NOT WORKING.

3. If we turn off Norton Family for the child account from parent account, then log in to the child account, we always find all Norton Family features are still in effect. So, "Turn off Norton Family" feature DOESN'T WORK.

4. We usually block all gaming sites, but when we need to unblock gaming site to allow child access gaming, the child account still couldn't access gaming site. So, "Web Supervision" feature DOESN'T WORK.

5. We paid for the subscription of Norton Family, so to avoid using Microsoft Window account. I believe consumers using Microsoft Window account don't pay for Norton Family for parent control.

We are frustrated spending lots of time being a free field tester for profitable Norton Family commercial software after paying the subscription fee on the software.

Re: Norton Family Time Limits Not Working on PC

Hi,

From what you described, it sounds like Norton Family hasn't been installated successfully.  Can you please reinstall Norton Family to see if it help.
