Re: installing on a Win Vista Laptop

Firstly, make sure you have your Operating System updated to Vista Service Pack 2.

You can download the installed from here:

Remember to run Live Update, restarting where required, until no more updates are available.

Hello Edward Michael ...

Welcome to the Norton Community Forum

Which Norton product are you trying to install on your Vista laptop.? You should read this Thread for more information about Vista products starting in June.

Re: installing on a Win Vista Laptop

Hi Edward Michael Sallows:

I tried logging into my Norton Account at https://my.norton.com/ with my IE9 browser and got an "Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage" error, so I suspect you can't make a secure connection to your Norton Account to start the download of the online stub installer because IE9 only supports older SSL 2.0, SSL 3.0 and TLS 1.0 connection protocols (see Tools | Internet Options | Advanced tab | Security).  If you browse to the Qualys SSL Labs test page at https://www.ssllabs.com/ssltest/viewMyClient.html with IE9 you will also see a warning confirming that your IE9 browser does not support safer TLS (Transport Layer Security) protocols like TLS 1.1 and TLS 1.2 that are now required for many secure (https://) web sites.

Note that the http:// links Krusty13 provided <here> for the full offline installers for Norton Security (NS) worked correctly when I tested with IE9.  Post back if you need a download link for an older product line like Norton Antivirus (NAV), Norton Internet Security (NIS) or Norton 360 / 360 Premium.

My default Firefox ESR (extended support release) browser supports newer TLS 1.1 and TLS 1.2 protocols, and Firefox ESR is currently the only major browser that is still fully supported for Win XP SP3 and Vista SP2.  Unfortunately, Mozilla has announced that support for Firefox ESR on these older platforms will end in June 2018 - see the Mozilla blog entry Update on Firefox Support for Windows XP and Vista.

ASIDE:  Please note that there is also a well known issue where Windows Update can hang on "Checking for updates..." on Vista SP2 computers for several hours (or even days).  If you encounter this problem please see the FAQ How to Fix Vista SP2 "Checking for Updates..." Hangs and Slow Windows Updates in the Vista Forums.
