MUST find a way to remove rogue posts even after signed out.

So, last night my attention was called to this:This person had posted in multiple areas of the site, however, although advertised as "Norton online chat" did not lead to a Norton site.  It was a 'shortened' suspicious url which i expanded out and have already reported it to Safe Web.  The point is, even though i reported this post to admin, while signed in, it was not accessible, however, when signed out, it was still accessible on the forum.  There should be a way to immediately vanquish these suspicious posts.  I could just imagine an unwitting forum goer seeing that link for supposed Norton chat, clicking, and then having their system ransomed.  I believe lmacri covered this aspect some time back.  If this ever happens again, users should be aware, that unless the url when you place your mouse over it is taking you directly to a secured Symantec or Norton site, do NOT trust it.

Guru's are normally around and many of us are the first to see these long before any admin ever arrives on the forums to deal with it. The current format I believe is limiting the number of posts and an admin has to approve first posts by new arrivals. A need for Guru's at least to be able to just remove these would suffice far greater for the protection of someone getting scammed when they jump on the links these people provide. Its not as though we'd be asking for admin privileges, on forums I have managed in the past, we gave "moderator" ability to a select few and trusted their decision processes to approve or remove based on their experience. Just a passing thought.

To clarify. Gurus do have the ability to mark a post as spam and when this is done, the post is immediately unpublished until an admin can verify.

And we are not afraid to use this feature.

The forum spam filters are always getting better at catching spam, but sometimes things still get through. That's when we jump in.

Wondering didn't I just say all that!! lol Noting to "clarify" Peter. I personally DO use the "notify an admin" feature and yes. The posts are "supposed" to be "unpublished" at that point, in reality!! That's not always the case. Many times one of we Guru's arrive on the forums and its already filled with junk posts as HB is pointing out. Admins are usually here long after the fact or not at all, mainly on the weekends. Therefore the risk has already presented itself without mitigation. As I suggested, my post was ONLY "Just a passing thought".

Please see Tony's Weiss' response in my October 2017 thread Persistence of Spam / Refresh Rates for Cache Servers as well as Symantec employee Kevin's response about the cache servers and web page refresh rates in the thread State of the Forums.

When you are logged out of your account you are viewing web pages stored on cache (proxy) servers in your region on Symantec's Content Delivery Network (CDN). Symantec only refreshes the web pages on these cache servers a few times a day to minimize the traffic / bandwidth usage on their CDN, which is why you can see still see spam messages on the cache servers for several hours after they've been removed from the main "master" web server.  It's the same reason why new threads and replies posted in the Norton Community in the past 4 to 6 hours or so only appear after you log in to the forum and you are switched to the "master" web server, and no one at Symantec seems concerned enough to increase the refresh rate.

Hi Guys,

I do like Soul's idea to bequeath some more ability to select people.  On the FUNimation forum, their administration reached out to select individuals who were active on the boards and also "vetted" from the Discord platform to assist in moderation.  With all of this though, i issue a caution as though more people were appointed, not sure if they should have been elevated.  More or less a fox watching the hen house thing.  It would have to be judiciously done, and checks and balances to ensure that those entrusted with the extra power didn't start to abuse it.  Perhaps even shifts could be broken down depending if users here are more day/ night people.  I guess for now, i'm probably more of a "nightbird" then again, i'm not always here, so, not sure if this would be the job for me...  Not going to lie though, to have the ability to eradicate a suspicious/ malicious link instantaneously, would be cool .  Even if not always here, just knowing that i have that ability and the chance that i run into something questionable and to be able to do something about it would be great.
