Norton Security blocking Seagate GoFlex Home?

I'm running Norton Security 22.14.2.13 under Win 7 and Win 10. When I try to access the files on my Seagate GoFlex Home NAS, explorer says the shares / folders are empty. When I access the drive directly via its IP address or via my Yamaha receiver, Samsun & LG televisions, or my MacPro 2,1, all the files and folders show up. These other devices do NOT have Norton Security on them. Could NS be blocking access to the folders?

Re: Norton Security blocking Seagate GoFlex Home?

Hi, LilBro. Try disabling Norton from your tray icon, and then try accessing those folders.

If you can when Norton is disabled, you'll need to exclude them.

1.

Click the "Settings" link in the Norton window to navigate to Settings. The Computer tab is selected by default.

2.

Click the "Antivirus and SONAR Exclusions" link and then click the "Configure" link next to "Items to Exclude from Scans." The Scan Exclusions window opens.

3.

Click the "Add" button, then the "Browse" button. Select the file you want to exclude from scans and click "OK" twice to add the file to the Exclusions list. You can select an entire folder, and all its subfolders, if you want to exclude a group of files.

4.

Click "Apply" and then "OK" to apply and save the new settings.

5.

Click the "Configure" link next to "Items to Exclude from Auto-Protect, SONAR and Download Intelligence Detection."

6.

Use the same method to add the file or folder to the Auto-Protect, SONAR and Download Intelligence Detection Exclusions list.

7.

Click "OK" to return to the main Norton window.

Re: Norton Security blocking Seagate GoFlex Home?

Did you follow the setup instructions shown in the quick setup guide here?   https://www.seagate.com/files/www-content/support-content/home-entertain...

Specifically, did you run the setup CD that should have set up the device to work with your computer.

Things happen. Export/Backup your Norton Password Manager data.

Eh-yup. The question is, why did the files suddenly disappear after the device had been working for months (Win10) and years (Win7)?

Re: Norton Security blocking Seagate GoFlex Home?

Windows updates have been known to mess things up with other software and hardware.

Try re running the setup CD.

Re: Norton Security blocking Seagate GoFlex Home?

All: The OP may want to have a look at this MS article related to SMBv1. Recent MS updates have removed the home group feature on most supported versions of Windows thus basically killing file shares on the network and related to and affects only windows based systems. I personally have SMD Direct enabled on all my Windows 10 Pro machines. SMBv1 is disabled due to serious issues with network breaching.

Cheers
