Is There a New Internet Explorer Security Issue?

HI folks

This may be my first post... or at least the first one in a very VERY long time  ;-)  Please don't laugh at me for asking the following:

I am wondering... has anyone been getting alerts from their Norton regarding Internet Explorer this week?  (YES, I still use IE... I also use Firefox and sometimes Opera, depending on what I am doing).  Norton closes the program, then gives a blocking report.

I have run Power Eraser and also regular scans along with Windows Update and so far no change.  It happens a couple of times a day, but I keep forgetting to get a screen shot showing the "error code"/number to share here.

Any new IE issues known to anti-virus folks?

JD

Hello JD

It's best to have a screenshot since we can't see your computer. Trying to help this way is just a matter of guessing. Do you use I D Safe? If you do, it's name has been changed to Password Manager. Are you seeing a full page blockage? Is it a red blockage like a malware  page is being blocked. I could keep on guessing, A picture shows a 100 words.

I can see you are using Win 7. Knowing the Norton program you are using as well as the version will help also.

Have a Good Night and

Thanks.

Attack Blocked

The Attack Blocked alert appears when Norton detects and blocks an application or a file that is prone to exploit. When you click Yes in the alert, Norton opens up the Security History - Advanced Details window that contains information about the blocked attack.

Does "Yes" open up the Security History - Advanced Details window that contains information about the blocked attack.

I'm not aware of IE issues?

Presuming your Internet Explorer (add-ons) is up-to-date.    Maybe, a program that runs thru Internet Explorer.
IDK
Maybe,  Chat with Official Norton Support  and point to your Topic.

Looks like my last screen shot is still in moderation-mode... YES, I try to keep up on updates.  But you mentioned add-ons... perhaps I can look a little further into those for now.

From the description of the detection, it sounds like you came across a web site with some bad things. Norton blocked the attempted exploit. It was detected as being from IE because that is the program that presented the exploit to your system. It was not actually IE that was infected.

Re: Is There a New Internet Explorer Security Issue?

Hmmm, INTERESTING, as more than likely the website that caused this was/is EBAY!!!

I wonder if that in turn means a plug-in they use is the issue... though I also use the site on Firefox as well (I know it is silly, but I handle my account on IE, and my boyfriend's on Firefox... I am just odd...).  How in the world do I figure out what may be on their site that is triggering Norton?  If it happened EVERY time I visited the site, that would be far simpler to troubleshoot...

Suggestions?  (Other than not using IE anymore?  It is like a well worn, cozy sweater...)

It is possible that there are malformed ads on what ever site you are visiting. You could try installing an ad blocker in IE.

The good news is that Norton did its job and blocked the attempted intrusion.
