Being blocked from a site I use regularily

Good Evening

Apologies if I am posting on the wrong forum.

I enter competitions several times a day and visit multiple sites. Over the past few days Norton is stopping me from access heart.co.uk a site I have used many, many times before.

Norton appears to have identified a certificate error with 2 computer threats.

I would like to access heart.co.uk  How can I do this? Despite the risks and threats Norton should be protecting me whilst I use this site and not permanently blocking me. Norton is stopping me having the chance of winning thousands of pounds. No one else appears to be being blocked from using this site. I have turned off Norton and yet you are still blocking me.

Hello Molly, I have submitted the URL to safeweb for further review. The safeweb full report shows "phishing" for the following a single article from the site. As soon as I have a response I will post that here.

Cheers

Despite the risks and threats Norton should be protecting me whilst I use this site and not permanently blocking me.

If you disregard the protections provided by Norton , you are opening your system up for an attack. Phishing attacks/attempts try to persuade a user to enter their personal information/email etc into an official looking form. Norton cannot stop you from doing that. And if you do fall for it, you may be open to identity theft.

floplot is reporting the site to the Safe Web team for you. If it comes back as a false positive detection, you would no longer be blocked.

Things happen. Export/Backup your Norton Password Manager data.

Re: Being blocked from a site I use regularily

Hello molly57

Please post a screenshot of the blockage you see when you turn off Norton and try going to that site.

Here are the instructions on how to add a image to your post.

https://community.norton.com/en/forums/how-post-image-forums-0

If you are getting blocked even when you turn off Norton, it sounds like something else is blocking you besides Norton. For this reason, we would like to see your screenshot of the blockage with Norton turned off.

Thanks.

Hello. I have no idea what Neustar is and am not aware of running it. I have been using heart.co.uk for years and last successfully used it up until the middle of last week when the Norton block came on. Theprizefinder.com has also been used for years and last successfully used on Saturday. When I went to use it on Sunday, yesterday the Norton block came on.

Re: Being blocked from a site I use regularily

I have now tried both sites and been able to get into them with no problems this time.

Re: Being blocked from a site I use regularily

Hello Molly

Perhaps your ISP runs Neustar? Did you used to use  Norton ConnectSafe before it was discontinued? Neustar isn't used by Symantec as far as I can tell. If you used to use ConnectSafe, then you need to change your DNS servers.

You might want to run a free scan with Malwarebytes to see if that program finds anything malicious.

Download the free version, install and update then run a FULL scan.

You can find Malwarebytes here
https://www.malwarebytes.org/dl-confirm/
Malwarebyttes 3 has been made to run along side Norton and other 3rd party security programs.

 https://forums.malwarebytes.com/topic/191650-malwarebytes-30-frequently-asked-questions

All you have to do is disable the trial in Settings>Account. That will disable the live time settings also. There is also another Setting to stop the program from starting with Windows. So only 2 settings to change to make the program be a on - demand scanner as previously in version 2.

Since your issue seems to be solved now, can you please  pick out the post which solved your issue? Please mark that post as the Solution for your Thread. Just click on Mark As Solution located on the bottom of the post that solved your issue.

Re: Being blocked from a site I use regularily

Good Afternoon

I have downloaded Malwarebytes and run a scan with it. It did not find any threats at all.

I am a bit confused by your next instructions. I have managed to deactivate the account but am not sure how to "stop the program from starting with Windows" Can you guide me through doing this?

Also as Norton was able to fix the issues I was having can you tell me how you were able to do this if Norton was not blocking my access to the sites? Is there any other way I can find why Neustar has come up on my computer and caused all these problems?

I'm curious what DNS Server you're using.

Re: Being blocked from a site I use regularily

Hello Molly

When you had Norton turned on, at first Safe Web was blocking you. Then Safe Web re-evaluated your site and it became Green OK. You mentioned that when you turned off Norton, you were still being blocked. That gave me the idea to ask you for the screenshot of the blockage you were seeing. That screenshot said Neustar on it. You had 2 different companies blocking you.

Perhaps your ISP uses Neustar DNS servers.? Did you ever use Norton Connect Safe? I would try flushing your DNS cache. That will clear out the cache. You can find instructions on this page.

Re: Being blocked from a site I use regularily

Sorry I have taken so long to come back to you. I have tried to follow the instructions to remove Norton Connect safe but am being shown different options.

I get as far as

  1. Press the Windows + R keys to open the Run dialog box.

  2. Type in the following text, and then press Enter.

    ncpa.cpl

  3. Right-click the network adapter that is currently active, and then click Properties.

If the User Account Control prompt appears, click Yes or Continue.

I am not offered the option to click Yes or Continue in the User Account Control prompt. Below is my options. What do I do from here?

You may switch to another DNS provider such as Open DNS or Cloudflare DNS instead....

Thank you for your reply. As previously stated I cannot go past paragraph 3 because I DO NOT have the option to choose a NETWORKING TAB therefore I cannot get to PROPERTIES on INTERNET PROTOCOL VERSION 4.

I did screenshot what I was being showing but for some reason my screenshot is in moderation.

Re: Being blocked from a site I use regularily

Thank you. Initially "Properties" was greyed out now it is letting me click on it and I can see "Obtain an IP address automatically" has a black dot against it.

Also underneath has "Use the following DNS server addresses" with a black dot against it.

Preferred DNS server:  199.85.126.10

Alternative DNS server:  199.85.127.10

Do I choose "Obtain DNS server address automatically" and then choose "OK" ?

Yes, that will change your DNS server from Norton DNS server to your Internet Service Provider DNS server.

Restart your machine and see how your Internet Service Provider DNS server works, for you.

Then at some time you may want to try another DNS server (like you tried Norton DNS - now discontinued)

Re: Being blocked from a site I use regularily

Good Morning

I was last in contact a few days ago and everything seemed to be working fine.

Now when I try to access other regular sites I am getting the following error messages:

On https://comps.prima.co.uk/competition/alfrescotreatwithPikNik_prima.php#...

PDOException

SQLSTATE[HY000] [2003] Can't connect to MySQL server on 'dmrdb' (126)

On https://comps.goodhousekeeping.co.uk/competition/Deans_goodhousekeeping.php

PDOException

SQLSTATE[HY000] [2003] Can't connect to MySQL server on 'dmrdb' (126)

The above are both links to individual competitions on the two sites. I have tried to access both site by various means and I am being continually blocked.

Is this anything to do with the previous issue I had or something new?

I am also being denied access to servers on my iPhone and iPad.

My current email provider is talktalk.net I did have issues yesterday whereby I could not access my emails for most of the day. This now appears to be fixed and I have not been updated as to what the cause was.

Regards

Re: Being blocked from a site I use regularily

For some unknown reason I have now been able to get into these sites now. I would still like to know what the issue is and why? Is it my computer, servers I am using or was it a problem with the sites themselves?

Kudos0

Re: Being blocked from a site I use regularily

Looking at your error messages on StackOverflow, it seems these errors are on the web site or page you are trying to visit.

https://stackoverflow.com/questions/23532323/sqlstatehy000-2003-cant-connect-to-mysql-server-on-127-0-0-1-61-error-l

The answer on that page....

An error like that means the server itself is not even reachable. Did you start MySQL in MAMP?

So this has nothing to do with Norton or Safe Web.

Things happen. Export/Backup your Norton Password Manager data.
