Core blocking safe sites

Even after the update couple days ago, Core is still block perfectly safe sites. I know there’s no such thing as perfectly safe site, but... Apple.com? Google.com? What’s going on?

Re: Core blocking safe sites

Skoutariotis. Have you rebooted, aka power cycled Core since the update to firmware ver. 282? I took the liberty to do so, all the bogus site blocks abated. There is another thread here where this is being discussed. Both iOS and Android apps have confirmation. I have no problems opening the sites you have listed above.

Cheers

Re: Core blocking safe sites

Jim,

Can you check if you have parental controls enabled?  If so which categories have you set up to block?  I have had experience with accidentally enabling categories such as shopping  which will cause all kinds of blocks.

Re: Core blocking safe sites

I DID have kids parental on, but not for the rest of the world. And yes, I’m on 282, I know prior had some of those challenges. I just turned off the kids parental too, they are not used anyway! We’ll see!

Skoutariotis. Just following up to see what the status of your issue with site blocking has progressed to.

Re: Core blocking safe sites

So far no new issues. I still have parental lock off. So maybe it was it, but what’s puzzling, my devices were NOT hers [the child]. Theoretically, shouldn’t have effect on my devices. She’s still there with her devices, but no limits. Perhaps I should mark your (or whoever it was) reply of parental settings as solved. Thank you for the follow up! Comment: I did not have any sites or categories set for parental blocking, still don’t. I think it might have been leftover from previous revision of the core firmware. I know it had some challenges with blocking some “good” sites. Not that there are any, but...

Re: Core blocking safe sites

Glad you have a solution. I actually wiped Core and everything in the cloud, then setup from scratch. Core app STILL shows previously connected devices in two areas where it shouldn't but the bogus site fetches have stopped. The Core team has chased their tails from day one with firmware. Much as they are with the new/revised N360 products. BETA for sale to customers. Hoping things don't revert again since Core is coming up on end of life in less than a year.

Cheers

Re: Core blocking safe sites

Yeah, I might do same with mine, JUST to clear everything up! EOL? REALLY? Already? They haven’t even touched on ANY suggested improvements, not ANY & STILL buggy! If they DO EOL, it’ll leave a lot of people bitter, I’m one of them! I’m already on the fence on switching to something faster & just run NAV. BTW, not aware of N360 stuff, I’ll chk it out! Thnx! BTW, if it reaches EOL, will they stop the premium coverage that comes with the Core? I looked at N360, I’m gonna look into it more!

Re: Core blocking safe sites

Once Core reaches EOL the Core Security Plus subscriptions, as we know them presently, won't be available. There MAY be something regarding a replacement protection suite to assist Core in continuing to protect the network. That only makes plausible sense from where I sit. We as customers shall see as we approach the EOL date next year. If I can get Core wiped clean of all Norton firmware I will most likely use the approach below for repurposing Core.

The new N360 products WERE initially nothing more than BETA but are now fully fledged products from what I understand. I'm running N360 Deluxe with the VPN but without Life Lock. Haven't had any major issues thus far.

Re: Core blocking safe sites

Hmmm, interesting! I wonder if we can replace the firmware w/the Netgear? I'm gonna try that next year at EOL time.

But, I expect there will be even faster wifi's out there by then. May not be a point of still keeping the Core, no more then keeping my 10 year old PC. At least w/PCs, you can use them elsewhere, not sure where to put an old wifi to use, I have 2 old ones and even gave away a third! Hell, I still have my old, original Netgear wifi and network stuff, beliuileve it or not, even my original Apple ][. Of course my no longer boots up w/the message "APPLE ][" it comes up with "GREEK ][" and it has security built into the EPROMS, which for the life of me, I cannot remember what the password was LOL! A brick! :(

Core blocking www.dot5hosting.com

Do not use the internet website hosting  dot5hosting often but yesterday it was blocked (yes this was only site blocked). The site's home page was not fully displayed and at login got message "Site cannot be reached". Talked to lots of people at dot5hosting as the ISP Cincinnati Bell. No answers. I do not have parental control on for Windows or Norton Core.  Puzzled. I started poking around in the Core App and blindly came to "Network Inspection" It was set at Default (recommended).  Because I was trying everything I changed it to Off (not recommended).  Rebooted the computer and suddenly dot5hosting started working. Now why would the Norton Core do something like that?  Thanks for any suggetions.

Cheers.

Re: Core blocking safe sites

Dot5hosting.com malicious site

I find that my Norton Core is blocking one of the sites I use occasionally, www.dot5hosting.com/  When I go to that site I see only part of their home page. When I enter the user name and password I get a screen "this site can't be reached".  My core does not have parental controls on. There is a message in the Core that tells me it just blocked this as a malicious site.

Hello Decrotty

It would be best if you started  a new thread than to post on a thread which is already solved.
