No protection while installing Norton Security

I was using a Norton Security product installed on four computers, and the subscription has expired. I purchased Norton
Security Premium 10 devices at a local electronics store, and am preparing to install it.

Three of the computers are using win7, with expired subscriptions. I avoid problems by not connecting them to the internet, but they will remain unprotected during the installation.  I need to uninstall Norton, which may take five minutes, then download and install Security Premium, and finally phone Norton Support to have them "bless" my store-purchased product - possibly 10+ minutes with no protection.

Would it be a good idea to temporarily install a "freeby" product such as AVG anti-virus and uninstall after Norton is running?

Jim. Having two different A/V solution running side by side is never a good idea as they will conflict with one another. Usually if the old product isn't EOL (end of life) you can just insert a NEW product key as shown in the screenshot below. No need to remove the old version. Live updates should be run and update the new product.

Re: No protection while installing Norton Security

I agree with SoulAsylum that you may be able to just enter your product key and update.  If not, you can uninstall the old Norton (or just install over it) -- just make sure to turn on the Windows Firewall before going online.  Your router will also act as a firewall to help protect you.  This keeps you safe from random things flying around the internet.  As long as you only go to safe, official sites like Norton.com and do not surf the web you will be OK.  You would need to actually visit a compromised website to be at risk, so no surfing until you get Norton installed.  Do not run another AV product, as it very likely will block or corrupt the Norton installation or create other conflicts.  The Norton Installer will generally insist that an existing competing program be removed before it will complete the installation anyway.

Hello

The competing program should be uninstalled using the Task Manager as well as the competing product uninstaller with restarts in between each step before installing Norton..

Thanks.

No, that will only cause problems with installation. Just leave all programs closed that can access the internet while you install your new product.
