Norton 360 VPN IPv6 Support - Misleading

Can anyone confirm if Norton 360 VPN supports IPV6. I turned on VPN, got a different ip4 address from my original ipv4 address but when I go to https://whatismyipaddress.com/, it showed me the new IPv4 address and my current IPv6 address. Using the IPV6 address, the website was able to identify my actual location. This was surprising to me as this defeats the whole purpose of the VPN!

I followed these instructions to disable IPv6 for now.

  1. Go to Apple - > System Preferences -> Network
  2. Select the first network connection you see listed on the left-hand side, then click the Advanced button.
  3. Go to the TCP/IP tab at the top
  4. Beside "Configure IPv6", set it to "Link-local Only"

After following this step, the website above was no longer able to identify my location or see my ipv6 address.

Did you check to see if the IPv6 address changed?

One Norton KB on IPv6 mentions Norton 360, but not specifically the VPN. Although you seem to be using a Mac.  Not sure if any code differences from the Windows version would cause the VPN to work differently.   https://support.norton.com/sp/en/us/home/current/solutions/kb20080811111546EN

The IPV6 address did not change and whatismyipaddress, com was able to identify where I was based on ipv6 (even though I was on VPN and the ipv4 address was different)

As I do not use a Mac, and my ISP does not fully support IPv6 yet, I cannot even test for you.

Hopefully someone else in the community can comment.
