Security News

Intel Security, Palo Alto Networks, Fortinet, and Symantec under the Cyber Threat Alliance have probed the net scourge revealing that the attackers are thought to be a single entity. That theory's based on commonalities in the Bitcoin wallets they use to receive ransom payments.

Kaspersky Lab has added an additional 14,031 decryption keys to their free repository, enabling all those who have fallen victim to CoinVault and Bitcryptor ransomware to retrieve their encrypted data without having to pay a ransom to cybercriminals.

Google is making a big change in the way it presents search results. Most people won’t notice, but, Google executives said, the new technology represents a leap forward in the company’s ability to understand what people are asking for when they search. [...]

Starting today, the company is rolling out a new machine learning–powered language processing method called Bidirectional Encoder Representations From Transformers, or BERT for short. BERT looks at the sequences of words in searches — not just the words themselves — to glean more information on the intent behind them. [...]

People who use Google won’t know whether their results are powered by BERT, and can’t revert to non-BERT results. Moving forward, BERT will be applied to all US searches.

Phishing — Baiting the Hook

In fact, over a 60-day period, Akamai observed more than 2,064,053,300 unique domains commonly associated with malicious activity. Of those, 89% had a lifespan of less than 24 hours, and 94% had a lifespan of less than three days.

December 2019 marks Ransomware’s 30th birthday
Experts predict that Ransomware will continue to grow his arsenal, arming himself with tools – keyloggers, backdoors, droppers – to expand his functionality. At the same time, it’s expected that Ransomware will become increasingly pickier about his victims, eschewing small-time marks in favor of bigger, juicier targets.

Wladimir Palant, creator of AdBlock Plus, published an analysis of Avast extensions in late October 2018 on his personal site.
