Norton Utilities Premium Fast Write Question

Is it a good idea to enable Fast Write if you have an SSD? The only reason why I am skeptical is because it says it uses real time optimization which to me means it is auto defragging when the system is idle. Any links to what Fast Write does in detail would be appreciated.

Re: Norton Utilities Premium Fast Write Question

The real time optimisation of the files using NUP Fast Write does not run any defrag operation. It just looks for a contiguous space on the drive to save files so there is no fragmentation in the first place.

Re: Norton Utilities Premium Fast Write Question

I am not so sure you need fast write if you have an SSD.

As you know SSD is fast since it requires no spinning or movement to acquire the file so fragmented files can be read as quickly as non-fragmented files, It is basically memory that is further from the CPU than normal memory. Since fast write does the defrag as you write the file it makes reading and loading the file quicker. So in my mind it is not needed for an SSD but maybe others with more detailed knowledge can add to this conversation.
