Reply edit box after posting

Win 10 21H1, Chrome Version 92.0.4515.107 (Official Build) (64-bit)

After I post a reply in a thread, the reply editor does not fully load. Refreshing the page does bring it back.

Edit Testing on Firefox  ver 90.0.2 (64-bit)

Edit 2...  Same result as when using Chrome.  But an additional piece of the puzzle. The editor loads correctly if you save an edit to an existing post. This only seems to be happening for the original post.

Some additional information on this. I also noted that after a post, if I try to click on the Account or language links at the top of the page, they are unresponsive until I refresh the page. And the language does not even display.

After post but before refresh.

After refresh. Links are active and the language appears.

@peterweb, Done some initial testing(Chrome)(New post)/(Comment), language drop-down works for me. Will do some more testing on other browser and update.

@peterweb - I was able to reproduce it once on the safari browser. I'll have it verified by our dev team.

Let's see if things are OK now.

Edit 1. No change yet on my end. Let me reboot my computer and try again.

Edit 2.  Still no change after system reboot and upgrading Chrome to version 94.0.4606.54 (Official Build) (64-bit).

@peterweb, Just to clarify, the "Account and Language" options are unresponsive while creating a new post issue is fixed.

The "Reply edit box" issue is still a work in progress.

I still am not able to get the Account details and the language to display after a post is made.

Edit:  Same result as @peterweb with Brave browser.  I am fairly sure I've seen the same on Firefox as well.

I find if I post then try to log out from the Account link on the same page the button doesn't work.

I found another quirk with this issue. The big orange Search bar at the top of the page does not work after a reply is posted until the page is refreshed again.

I just tested from my Firefox v97.0.1 and MS Edge v98.0.1108.56 browsers (the current stable versions) and can confirm that immediately after I post a reply:

  • The Account and Language features in the top-right corner of the page are non-functional (unresponsive to clicks).
  • The "Search the Community" feature doesn't work (I can enter a search term but pressing "Enter" or clicking the search icon has no effect).
  • The WYSIWYG editor at the bottom of the thread changes to a plain comment box as shown below (which I previously reported 13-Jan-2022 in bjm_'s Message Editor Goes Wonky).

Disabling all browser extensions like uBlock Origin, Malwarebytes Browser Guard, etc. does not fix these problem.

Browsing to a new page (e.g., clicking the "Community" link in the top banner to browse to https://community.norton.com/forums?inid=community-nav_community-forums) and then using the "Go back one page" arrow in my browser to go back to the "problem" page does not fix these problems.

Refreshing the page fixes all these problems.

I have found that when going back one page in the browser does not refresh the previous browser page. You can see this by going to a forum listing with unread threads and clicking on one of the unread threads. Then after looking at that thread click on the back button in the browser. You will see that the listings have not updated to show that thread as read. Refreshing that page will do the update.

See Sunil_GA's 11-May-2022 post in bjm's Message Editor Goes Wonky.  I tested and the WYSIWYG editor for new replies loaded correctly after I posted a new reply today, and the Account and Language dropdowns in the top-right corner of the page and Search the Community feature were working as well.

Good catch lmacri. I noted it was not working correctly last night while I was on here. And after reading your post, I just check the last thread I replied to and as you note, things seem to be back to 'normal'
