Norton 360 invokes Quick Scan after period of inactivity

Good evening.

I'm running N360 on W10 64-bit.

I like to set all available options to Manual. This works well. After a couple of weeks of inactivity however, I noticed that the software automatically invoked a Quick Scan and drew significant system resources during the process (not unusual).

I'm just wondering under what specific circumstances does the software behave so. Also, is there a supported tool to allow the user to see what tasks the software is performing in realtime?

Thanks & best wishes
Sal

I think the software must be sensitive to time thresholds and invoke the scan if the threshold is exceeded. Irrespective of whether the user has set it to run manually.

You are correct.  Quick Scans are considered a priority item.  If they have not had an opportunity to run after a few days (3 days, I believe), a Quick Scan will run automatically.  There is no user setting to override this.  The number of new threats that arrive daily make it important to run these scans frequently to catch anything that might have been undetectable prior to the latest virus signature update.

Norton LiveUpdate will run in the background about once an hour. If a LiveUpdate downloads new malware definitions, it will call on a Quick Scan to check the system against any new definitions just downloaded. It should only take about a minute to complete, depending on your system specs.

Thanks for your message. I run LiveUpdate manually as well so don’t think that explains it. I think the software must be sensitive to time thresholds and invoke the scan if the threshold is exceeded. Irrespective of whether the user has set it to run manually. Regards Sal
