How to save Norton 360 Firewall Control Settings?

Norton Live Update failed with an "unknown error".  The only solution Norton support offers is to download and run the NRnR (remove and reinstall) tool.  This caused me to lose all my custom firewall program control settings.  There was no warning and no option to save settings first.

A Norton Support Chat person told me not to use the NRnR tool if this happens again.  I was told I can uninstall from the Norton Control Panel which will give me an option to save my custom settings.  I can not find any option on the Norton 'Control Panel' to uninstall.

Where is the uninstall Norton option that includes saving settings?

There are 2 ways the product may be uninstalled, you can either use the very standard Add/Remove Software from the Windows Control Panel where all software on your system has uninstall options. In this option 1, you will be given the option to save your settings when you uninstall, and therefore during a reinstall, all the settings will return.

As the section option, using the Norton Remove and Reinstall tool -> https://support.norton.com/sp/en/us/home/current/solutions/v60392881, which is primarily used to start with a full clean install and not restore settings. This will not give save the options as its intended purpose is to start clean.

Windows Settings -> Apps & features
Windows Control Panel -> Programs and Features
Note: I don't know if "keep my settings" will save your "custom" Program Control settings.

Note: Norton does not have an Export...Settings feature.

I am also doubtful that "keep my settings" will retain your firewall configuration.  You can try and it might work, but do not be surprised if it doesn't.

Ah Ha.  I thought the Norton Chat support person was talking about an option within Norton.

He was referring to Windows Control Panel to uninstall a program?  I agree with you, I doubt that my firewall settings will be saved.  If it did why couldn't Norton integrate that same functionality into their own NRnR tool?  Sloppy, lazy support functionality!!  Unbelievable that Norton support directed me to use windows control panel to solve a problem within Norton.

I have read other threads here asking the same question and the responses are that Norton has not provided any mechanism for saving firewall settings or even giving a clue as to where those settings are stored.

This is the second time Live Update has crashed on me with a reinstall that loses all my settings.  Maybe the fundamental question should have been "why does Live Update crash and require the user to completely uninstall and reinstall the whole program?  C'mon Man, it's the 21st century, how do you justify charging $60 for this POS software???

Re: How to save Norton 360 Firewall Control Settings?

Short of someone from Norton manning up to provide a solution to this problem here is the archaic stone age solution to saving custom firewall program control settings:

1.  Heaven forbid that this POS software crashes on Live Update take a screen shot of your custom firewall program control settings.  You may need to take several screen shots if you have more than a handful of custom settings, scrolling down and taking screen shots of all settings. Save these screen shots in a file for reference after uninstalling and reinstalling Norton.  WARNING!!  Failure to manually make a copy of all custom firewall settings will result in losing them requiring the user to rely on his own recollection of what those settings were.

2.  Download and run the NRnR tool or go to windows control panel and uninstall Norton, then reinstall Norton.

3.  After Norton is reinstalled, all your custom firewall settings are gone so pull up the file where you saved all your custom Firewall setting screen shots.

4.  Manually re-enter your Firewall settings.

5.  Make sure auto renewal is turned off in your Norton subscription settings and when the time comes up, do not renew your Norton subscription, you paid for better support than this.

Re: How to save Norton 360 Firewall Control Settings?

@Jamval
as test:  Apps & features -> Uninstall -> "keep my settings"

my Norton Smart Firewall Program Control Access settings were retained.
my Norton 360 product settings were retained.
my Norton 360 Scan Exclusions were retained.
my Norton 360 Process Exclusion were retained.
my Norton 360 Security History was retained.

Note: fresh pre-activated downloader/installer pulled from My Norton account before Uninstall.

I imagine my "keep my settings" were retained here:

@Matt_Boucher
I've not tested Norton 360 re-install with "keep my settings" long time.
Thanks
