Windows 7 - Norton 360 - Update recently. Now have Windows Antispyware and Antimalware messages

I just recently noticed that Norton 360 has updated to Version 22.22.7.14

I then have constantly had the Windows Action Centre flag constantly flag that I do not have Windows Firewall protection, Windows Antispyware and Antivirus protection.

I go to select the installed product and it will not accept my selection of Norton 360 product that I have had the product installed and Liveupdates selected.

I have followed the instructions recently to RnR Norton to no affect.

Removal of Norton 360 with the Norton RnR tool worked fine. The installation tool would start, then install scanner, download virus signatures, then scan for viruses.

I am constantly also having the computer crash on me - I also attempted to install Malwarebytes and ad to uninstall as it conflicts, but it quarantined three files.

I know that I am operating an old system Windows 7 Home Premium (64-bit)

I am also on a Sony VAIO VPCEB64FG.

I am not that great with computers, but wish to be protected when I am browsing on my laptop.
I also decided to run a Windows Update as I know that it pays to also protect myself from hackers.

Any assistance or more information required - I will try my best

Re: Windows 7 - Norton 360 - Update recently. Now have Windows Antispyware and Antimalware messages

Thank you so much for your detailed message.

While I read ahead, I ran the Norton Remove and Reinstall tool - and used the full uninstall feature.

I also read how to post the pictures that would be helpful to the people trying to assist me in my quest to be protected.

The link that you showed me - I was a bit hesitant to try out. I am only a moderate computer user and then worried that I would be deleting previous versions back up sets - but I wished to resolve the issue at hand.
I also would classify my computer displaying an AWOL type of situation.

I navigated my way through the C: and did the following:

This one I could not get to delete - but it works regardless - I just kept trying

This is the screen that I get after doing LiveUpdate x 3 as instructed.

After doing all this I hope that I do not encounter it again and I am wondering what actually caused it - maybe Windows 7 is getting too old, or Norton Updates may conflict.
You sound smarter than myself - until the next few restarts - I will mark resolved and I am really happy with all the assistance given.

Re: Windows 7 - Norton 360 - Update recently. Now have Windows Antispyware and Antimalware messages

I think that the folders that I deleted were remnants - is that correct - is it an issue for most users - I feel for old people like myself.
But I thank you for your guidance through a tough time in my life - going through chemotherapy.

I am only learning - but it is fun.
Does Norton RnR scour your whole computer to delete such files and then when the new release that some users had issues?

Re: Windows 7 - Norton 360 - Update recently. Now have Windows Antispyware and Antimalware messages

Upon restart I am back to square one. I am receiving messages that I am not covered by any antispyware programs, Check Antivirus program, and the last one is the Network firewall.

Do I really have to go through the whole process again

I also am doing the run Norton LiveUpdate again - but seems fruitless

This is the Windows Warning - when Norton 360 is selected - will not accept

Any help will be appreciated - even if it is a Window 7 error against Norton 360.

Re: Windows 7 - Norton 360 - Update recently. Now have Windows Antispyware and Antimalware messages

I have read somewhere that the following may the issue:

It's Windows doing the moaning. Because you are on Windows 7 it hasn't got all the new bits in it that recognise you are covered and turn this message off.

If you can run Windows Defender it might turn it off. Mind you, Norton might moan then.

An upgrade to Windows 10 would sort it.

Are you saying this issue does not fix when you click on Norton 360, then click Turn On?

Re: Windows 7 - Norton 360 - Update recently. Now have Windows Antispyware and Antimalware messages

1. My date and time are correct

2. W7 SP1 or later - unsure how to find that out - just went into control panel - W7 SP1 - affirmative

3. Below is the confirmation - and thank you for the links - I am an old geek - sometimes find it hard

That is what I got once I tried to install the above update and moved to the next.

I thank the members on this forum - may have to test my keystrokes on chat

Yes, it is refusing that and coming up with this error

Then not accepting my selection - time and time again. Even on restart

Thank you

So again to confirm. When you click on "Yes, I trust the publisher and want to run this program" It still will not run?

Re: Windows 7 - Norton 360 - Update recently. Now have Windows Antispyware and Antimalware messages

Do not waste your time, it also happened a couple of years ago with Windows 7, it's up to Norton engineers to fix it with a hotfix. Ask a Guru hear to report it to the appropriate team. You may have to send them some logs.

Temporarily, you can go to Action Center and disable all those notifications. (Turn off messages about...)

Even now, Norton should do it's job regardless of the errors you're seeing in Action Center.

When a patch is available you can re-enable and see if everything is working.

I have just noted that on my event logs that the system time as changed on my system

But I think that I do not know my way around a laptop, and I think that it is the time I logged in and out.

I have just finished making sure that my machine has the two recent updates as per the link to Malwarebytes

I appreciate the community on here and I am so sorry for trying to fix this mess.

The most impressed I was with is seeing another link saying to go into this:

Re: Windows 7 - Norton 360 - Update recently. Now have Windows Antispyware and Antimalware messages

I am now frustrated with everything:

1. Running Windows Defender as I afraid that I am not protected from any intrusions

First got this message

Then this

2. I am looking at MS websites on firewalls - but not that confident in going into the background operations of the operating systems

http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_vista-security/windows-firewall-wont-start-error-code-6801-in/cf717fcb-2127-486a-b4c7-2af24a9cde96

I am wondering if any Guru's will be able to help me further.

I have read that maybe the following may help me :

- Go To "Run"

- Type "CMD"

- Enter - cd:\windows\system32\config\TxR

- run "attrib –H –S *" to make all hidden files in the directory visible.

- run "del *.blf"

- run "del *.regtrans-ms"

- reboot the machine

3. I am happy that the MS security updates that I followed on the Malwarebytes website.

I am running further updates at the moment.

I hope that a patch or something can fix this - or what advice would you give me.

I thank you all for reading my painstaking words
