How can I re-install and get it to work

I have Windows 10 and Norton 360 Deluxe installed and it was working prior to the latest update. It now is no longer working. I tried un-installing and re-installing and rebooted, several times, with out success. The install process gets to a certain point and then hangs. It never goes any further. I'm hoping someone can help please.

Re: How can I re-install and get it to work

Hello.

Use the R&R tool to remove your Norton product, follow the instructions in the article below. Take note of step #5, my suggestion is to perform a "removal only" scenario and restart the machine. Once rebooted you can download your product again from your Norton account.

Do one of the following depending on your situation:

  • To uninstall and reinstall your Norton device security product, click Remove & Reinstall.

  • To only remove your Norton device security product, click Advanced Options and then click Remove Only.

visit this link to get offline/standalone setup file.

Then after complete setting up process, Sign In to your Norton account and keep running Norton LiveUpdate untill you get no update available.

Hope this could help you.

Ranjan313 your link should be: https://www.norton.com/cspn360

@leggylyn666 Check your system settings to verify whether fast startup is enabled or disabled. Having it enabled does cause issues with software and updates not properly installing.

Re: How can I re-install and get it to work

Hi SoulAsylum. I did contact support, have spoken to 6 agents, 1 supervisor and 1 in level 2 (higher support) and still haven't got it sorted. the last person said it was something to do with the last update they did and something should be done within the next 72 hours from Friday. I just like the way they say they will contact you within a timeframe and it gets extended every time. Will be chasing it up again on Monday/Tuesday, as I am paying for a product that isn't working. Very unhappy. Not sure where to go to next.

Re: How can I re-install and get it to work

Let me recap a bit if I may. What version and build is your install of Windows 10? Are you allowing your computer to sleep or hibernate when not in use? Give the link below a shot, lets see if that can correct anything for you.

Re: How can I re-install and get it to work

The above link worked for me when posting however it now opens to something not even related to the issue at hand. I got the download and verified the link before posting the link. I will check with one of the Admins to find out what is going on. The file that is supposed to download is attached below.

Re: How can I re-install and get it to work

Just tried it, but get this error message,

We encountered an unexpected error, and the fix could not be applied. If you have problems activating, follow the steps on this page:

https://support.norton.com/sp/en/us/home/current/solutions/v60392881_End...

which takes me to the remove and reinstall page, which I have already tried and not worked

Re: How can I re-install and get it to work

I apologize for the tardy response, its a long holiday weekend here in the US. Let us try one more thing which will again take some dexterity and patience on your part. My thoughts are, something in your system registry isn't working correctly. Running a elevated commend at the RUN prompt may help. Please do the following and let us know your results:

Repair Windows Installation:

  1. Open an elevated command prompt. To do this, open Start menu or Start screen, type Command Prompt, right-select Command Prompt, and then select Run as administrator. If you are prompted for an administrator password or for a confirmation, type the password, or select Allow.

  2. Type the following command, and then press Enter. Type the sfc/scannow command and press Enter. It may take several minutes for the command operation to be completed.

  3. In the same command prompt copy / paste the below command and press enter. Again, it will take several minutes to complete.

  4. DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth

  5. Close the command prompt window and reboot your computer. Once again run the R&R tool to verify whether the Norton install has cleanly been removed. Reinstall your product.

Re: How can I re-install and get it to work

Hi SoulAsylum, hope you enjoyed your weekend. Sorry for the delay in replying.

Just had support on the phone and remote on computer and Hey Presto, it's working. Well, the version before the update in August. They said that there was a known error and they are trying to sort it.

Thank you for your help, have a great day.

Re: How can I re-install and get it to work

I'm dealing with same problem, and I'm interested if you found a solution. Already dealt with two Norton techs who didn't know and am waiting for them to get back to me within 48 hours which has passed with no reply. The problem lies totally within 22.22.7.14  because I did two rollbacks with system images and Norton 360 works perfectly until 360 updates. I tried all the suggested solutions well before I arrived here. Looking like I'll have to buy another brand.

Re: How can I re-install and get it to work

I spoke to 11 Norton techs and the only way it was solved was by re-installing to the version before the last 2 updates and turning off auto-updates. It's working for the moment and I have been told NOT to update anything until the next new update rolls out, as there is a problem with it and it is affecting lots of people. The last tech was a senior one, who sorted it out. Hopefully this is going to work. Just keep on pestering them.

Re: How can I re-install and get it to work

Yes, rollbacks to a previous version solve the problem but new updates come so quickly for me (less than 10 minutes) it’s difficult for me to stop because the default setting for 360 is with updates ON. There is an actual fix I’ve seen on another board which involves line of code in config.sys. The problem is there is such a wide swathe of experience with these Norton techs most are just trying to find a solution like the average user. In other words 95% of them have only dealt with problems of moderate difficulty and repeat what you have already done. Bottom line if techs knew the fix, which I can observe on remote screen, they would go to it immediately. I don’t see that.

The next problem you deal with is whether update 22.22.8.13 is dependent on 22.22.7.14 being installed previously.

The third problem is Norton Remove and Install is likely just reinstalling the same problem over and over unless your initial install was problematic to begin with.

The fourth problem is with updating turned off you’re exposing yourself.

My problem is Norton 360 looks like it is working but I can’t open it to know and check by scanning.
