Norton pop-ups

How do I stop all sales and marketing pop-ups from Norton, and endless barrage. And why do they feel that they have the right to do so when I pay to have them stop pop-ups from everyone else.

Setting>Administrative Settings> Special offer Notification option off.

Re: Norton pop-ups

This is NOT CORRECT, or at least I see no "Administrative Settings" click anywhere in the physical Norton 360 app (on Windows 10) or in my Account settings online.

Not to mention that no one has provided this information before, and there are like 10 such threads in these forums, all of which are (a) asking how to do this, and (b) being ignored by Norton.

If this is not resolved by November, I am not renewing my license.  Norton is full of SH*T that they hit you with popups to upsell you, when they are a piece of software that BLOCKS others popups, among other things.

Very disgruntled customer and for good reason.

First, you need to logged into a Windows Admin Account to see Administrative Settings.

Second you see those settings from the classic interface that you can open from the new My Norton interface by clicking on Open beside Device Security.

Re: Norton pop-ups

WOW... This works!  My apologies for doubting you... :)

Now the question is, "Why hasn't anyone at Norton answered the other 10 threads on this same topic?"

THANK YOU!

Before you get too excited, wait a week or so to see if you still do not see any marketing popups. Most of those other threads note that the Special Offer Notifications setting has done nothing to stop the marketing messages.

If the "Special Offer Notification" setting doesn't stop "Marketing" messages, then... WTF does it do?!

This is intolerable.  :(

I'll be watching my system tray for sure.........................

It is an old feature from many years ago when there were very few offers made, and the feature did work. Norton just has not connected the feature to the rest of the app to make it work correctly.

Where do I find "Setting>Administrative Settings> Special offer Notification option off".  Thank you.

Re: Norton pop-ups

If you are happy with your current solution and you don't mind getting the other pop-ups regarding unused features then ignore this.

In the administrator settings, under silent mode there is an option to prevent pop-ups when specific programs are running. You add specific programs to a list and, when they run, Norton suspends background tasks and some alerts.

I've configured my product to use silent mode when my mouse software is running which is, basically, all the time. I'll probably forget to come back to this post unless it doesn't work, in which case view my lack of updates as a positive thing.

I suppose it would be possible to add the Norton exe file to the list but that sounds a bit dangerous.

Re: Norton pop-ups

@TOG - great information!   I selected EXPLORER.EXE as the program running to enter "Silent Mode" (actually "Quiet Mode" - what's the difference???).  Obviously, that's always running, by definition.

I am still angry that this is soooooooooooooooo obfuscated by Norton.  There is just no reason to make it this difficult to do what we are trying to do.

Whatever... if it works, all is good.  If it doesn't....  Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr...........

Thanks!

Re: Norton pop-ups

I found the administrative option they were talking about. Switch the program to classic view, and you can get to it. I have had Norton for a very long time and pay the subscription every year, as expensive as it is. Over time, the popups have continually increased. Many of the popups have an option to remind me later or don't ask again. If you click don't ask again, it will. I hate it when companies do this to us. We are paying out the nose for this product, and anyone with any brain knows people hate being bothered with popups and constant harassment from a website or program. Our entire day is filled with this type of intrusion. If I am paying for the service, I expect the notifications of this nature to stop cold! The problem is, you can't switch to another program without it doing the same damn thing. Go on Reddit and post this gripe in trueoffmychest sub Reddit and see how many responses you get. These companies are driving us nuts slowly. Most of that crap they offer you can get for free using Firefox browser and a selected set of extensions. I went as far as taking my old laptop and installed Ubuntu on it and then installed PiHole software. This turned my laptop into a DNS sinkhole and stopped more than 90% of the ads online. I added an extension into Firefox that eliminated the adds on YouTube as well, and that is saying something. It is sad we have to seek out hacks on the internet to battle back with these companies. For the love of God, Norton, please eliminate these incessant popups or give us a clear path to turn the damn things off, so we are no longer bothered. Peace out!

Re: Norton pop-ups

I hear you… and I feel you… :(

While it seems the “nag pop ups” have decreased since I have made this change, they have not ended.  My guess is that they have a lot of “categories” that you have to say “Do Not Ask Again” (e.g. Marketing, Features, Identity, Performance, etc etc etc), so until you have said “Do not ask again” to every one of them, which could take who knows how long, you’ll continue to get these pop ups.

The whole thing is bullshit.  How a company like this cannot be REVIEWING THESE FORUMS and seeing all the complaints, and then making the requested changes, is utter crap.

Shame on you, Norton.

Sincerely,

Customer using your damn productions since DOS 3.x
