Norton 360 incorrectly detecting that home WiFi is compromised on latest version of iOS app.

The latest version of the Norton 360 iOS app is persistently reporting that my home WiFi network is compromised, and turning the VPN on. My network is not compromised. I have Norton installed on my desktop, which is on the same network. There are no problems detected there. This issue only started happening when I updated to the latest version of the iOS app, version 2.48.0.20221111.3. There were no problems previously. Looks like you introduced a bug. Please fix this. It is killing my battery life, accounting for 74% of my battery usage while home and slowing down my internet access. The constant notifications about my "compromised" network are also maddening. I'm about to uninstall. I'm not sure why you closed the previous thread reporting this issue. There was no resolution posted. I've tried uninstalling the app, and re-downloading/re-installing. I've also rebooted my router and tried forcing a new IP address. And of course I've hard rebooted the phone itself. None of this helped. I also have a 2nd corporate issued and managed iPhone connected to the same WiFi. It has its own security software, and is not detecting any issues.

There is a new version of 360 iOS. Version 2.50.  Try to get that on your device and test again.

Did this new detection coincide with a new iOS version update? iOS 16.2 has just been released. What device and iOS version are you using?

See this Norton Support article that explains the High Battery use by 360 iOS. It is generally not as bad as you might think.

Re: Norton 360 incorrectly detecting that home WiFi is compromised on latest version of iOS app.

Thank you for the reply.  I would gladly try 360 version 2.50 if it was being offered on the Apple store, but it is not.  2.48.0.20221111.3 is still the latest version they are offering.

The new detection did not correspond with a new iOS version, it corresponded with version 2.48.0.20221111.3 of the Norton app.

I'm using an iPhone 6S and I'm still on iOS version 14.8.1.  Yes, I know there are vulnerabilities and that I should update.  I'd love to, but Apple is preventing me from doing so at the moment.  I don't want to get into a whole story, or rant, about Apple but briefly...  I need to sync and backup using a wired connection through iTunes.  I won't use their cloud.  I'm still on Windows7 (paying for security updates), but Apple has dropped support for it with newer versions of iTunes.  The latest iTunes version I can install only supports 14.8.1.  I'm in the process of building a new PC, which will eventually run Win11, but that is a time consuming process, and I'm not about to waste time updating my current PC to Win10 just to sync my phone.  Just typing that gave me a headache.  Not a fan of forced updates, Apple, or any version of windows past 7.

I read the support article about the battery.  I'm not sure I believe it's not having an effect.  I've also noticed my battery running down very quickly while I'm at home with the detection issue spamming warnings at me and the VPN on.  This is hard to quantify, but it's been very noticeable since the app update to v2.48.0.20221111.3.

Just another note, I don't connect to any other WiFi network other than mine at home.

I too had to get a new iPhone when my 6S could no longer get the iOs major updates. From my understanding of Apple's policy on iOS updates, there is not going to be anything you can do while still using that phone to get any newer OS.

Norton should still support your iOS version until iOS 17 gets released. The delay in being offered 360 could be related to your geographic location, or the fact that Norton releases new versions in a phased manner. ie They release it to a smaller number of users and pause the release so they can check the telemetry to see if there are any issues with the version. Then they release to a larger number and monitor again. Eventually, the free up the release to everyone.

The battery use issue is explained in the link I gave. If you do not want to believe that, that is your prerogative.  Have you checked the battery health level on your iPhone 6S?  Mine was down to 80% when I traded it for my replacement.

Re: Norton 360 incorrectly detecting that home WiFi is compromised on latest version of iOS app.

I could update the iPhone 6S to the latest version of iOS16. It's Apple's refusal to allow me to install the latest iTunes that is holding me back from doing that. I could back up with 3rd party software, but I'd lose the ability to sync with Outlook. A new phone actually wouldn't help my situation, so my first priority is a new PC. In the meantime, I still haven't seen the 360 update. I'll keep checking. The battery is over 90% health. I had it replaced about a year ago.

Not sure how you can upgrade to iOS 16.x.x when this Apple support article lists the iPhone 8 as the oldest phone supported.   https://support.apple.com/en-ca/HT213411

Not being able to install the latest iTunes probably goes along with the requirement for the latest iOS version. Which goes back to the OS not being supported on your device.

For the network detections, all I can say is keep trying to get the 2.5 version of 360. Once you get that let us know if you still see the detection.

I installed the 2.5 version update of 360. It did not help. The bug/problem still exists. Also, I hadn't noticed that I couldn't update to the latest iOS. I guess I stopped checking each version once I was unable to update iTunes. Thanks for pointing this out.

Re: Norton 360 incorrectly detecting that home WiFi is compromised on latest version of iOS app.

Does your ISP's modem or your router have any built in security? That could be getting detected as compromising your network. And not being detected by your PC's could just be a difference in code base between Windows and iOS. If there is any security there, try turning it off to see if that resolves this issue.

If the router suggestion does not help,  I can only suggest sending logs to Norton to see if they can diagnose the issue.

Start by opening iOS settings on your device and scroll down to the bot tom where the apps are listed. Tap on the Norton  360 app and tap to Enable Debug Log.

Now use your device until it causes the issue you are having. Then open the 360 app and tap on the three bars at the top left, then tap Help. Tap on Send Error Report and fill in any information requested. In your submission, please include "forum 'your username' " in the Case ID section of the report. Also include a link to this thread.

If you do send logs, please let me know and I'll notify my contacts to look for them.
