Conflict between Norton AV and Transmissionbt

Running Mac OSX 10.4.11 with all security updates and Norton AV v11.0.1(3)

Here is an edited quote of my post to Transmissionbt forum regarding this problem along with their reply.
My post to Transmissionbt forum:Appears to be a major conflict between T (Transmissionbt client) and NortonAV Live Update's 'scheduled update', causing a nasty freeze requiring manual shutdown and a restart. Tested v1.34 (refers to Transmissiondbt app. version #)

Transmissionbt's reply:That is an issue with NortonAV. Report it to them.
What happened was that when NAV's 'scheduled update' started up it caused Transmissionbt to freeze along with Finder. Nothing would respond, including Force Quit, so I had to manually quit and restart.

I have disabled 'scheduled update' until a fix can be found. Can a tech from here handle this problem or should I contact 'Support' directly? Thanks for your attention to this matter!

Re: Conflict between Norton AV and Transmissionbt

hi x190ac!

Thanks for posting. Sorry to get back to you late on this.

Well, we'll have to look at this. I haven't heard of this product, but we'll look into it. I am not sure why us pinging our LiveUpdate servers would impact any other programs, but here's what we'll do:

1 - we are on holiday break next week but I will get in touch with their developers to see if they know about this problem

2 - once we figure out what's going on, we'll get a patch out.

I can't tell you when this will be fixed (I haven't had breakfast yet) but thanks for posting here.  If possible, could you drop me an email at mike_romo@symantec.com?  then I can coordinate with you to see if I can get a crash log, etc.

It's weird, though, I gotta say--NAV 11 has been out for awhile, like over a year, and we haven't heard about this problem before. Methinks...well, we'll see what's what.

thanks,

mike
