15 September 2023 - AMD Radeon (TM) Graphics Driver Update

Ten days ago on 15 September, I updated my Dell Inspiron 14 2-in1 laptop. I also utilize the Thunderbolt and two external monitors which makes up my personal training computer for work. After the AMD Radeon (TM) Graphics Driver Update, my laptop is messed up. 

1. It takes up to 15 minutes for my laptop's screen to show any details.

2. If and when it shows any details, the laptop monitor shows only broken pixels.

3. At times my dual monitors will go dark every 30 to 60 seconds, for about 10 seconds, and then come back on. 

4. NOTE: Before an initial start-up in the morning, or re-booting my laptop, I have to disconnect my dual monitors. After my laptop runs through its bizarre issues, which takes anywhere from 5 to 10 minutes, the laptop sign-in screen will appear and only then can I plug my Thunderbolt / monitors back into my laptop.

Is anyone else having these problems? Will the laptop work itself out and fix the problem? Or should I reset the clock to 14 September? 

I like Norton driver updates, but if I reset my laptop back to 14 September, how can I trust future updates? 

p.s. After doing a re-boot 5 minutes ago, my laptop is working well, but this may not last very long.

Before anyone replies; now that my laptop has gone through a few iterations of re-boots, unplug and plug into the Thunderbolt, etc., it is now working great but tomorrow, these problems may start again.

That looks and sounds like an issue my daughter had with her laptop. After starting up in the morning, the screen would be garbled. She would restart the computer and all was well again, until the next morning. 

Do you shut down your computer overnight? If so and you have Windows Fast Startup feature enabled, you could be seeing issues with the graphics drivers not playing well when coming out of the hibernate state used by Fast Startup. That is what my daughter's system was doing. Shutdown and startup again if you have Windows Fast Startup feature enabled does not get a complete system shutdown required to initialize all drivers and apps. If you use Windows 8/8.1, 10 or 11, there can be an issue with the Windows Fast Startup feature.. Hey thanks for the message. I read it last night and then disabled the Fast Startup in my laptop and turned it off. This morning I re-started it and unfortunately, this did not fix the problem. I may have to take it into my local computer fix-it shop.

My laptop does work but after starting it up, it takes about 15 minutes to work through the maze that you see in my screenshots, and then I can enter my log-in and do work.

Try going into Device Manager and rolling back your graphics drivers. 

Also check with Dell for the latest drivers.  Better to use drivers from the device manufacturer than Windows drivers or ones from AMD. 

Also try disabling any of the AMD apps that control the graphics hardware to see if that will fix things.
