36 DAYS LEFT OF SUBSCRIPTION

I have Norton Security Suite Through Comcast.

I download a free tool from Norton called NORTON PC CHECKUP.

After running the tool it states in the PROTECTION SECTION:

Product Name ---------Norton Security Suite

Subscription Status---------36 days remaining.

Why would would it say I only 36 days left on subscription especially since I only started this software on 07/22/2010?????

Can someone give me a reason for this?

Thank you

Re: 36 DAYS LEFT OF SUBSCRIPTION

Hi,

what does your Norton Security Suite writes on the main window? How much days are on that?

I would say that your should believe more for NSS. Plus because it's a modified Norton 360 for Comcast users, it is possible that it uses a modified licensing mechanism as well, and this could confuse Norton PC Check Up somehow, and you see this "error" because of that.

Re: 36 DAYS LEFT OF SUBSCRIPTION

Moggy,

 .

The Norton PC Checkup should be counting down as it is a trial.

.

Your CNSS should not be counting down, nor will it expire as long as you are a Comcast Customer and they offer it as part of their package.

.

If you click on My Account, Sign-in and it should list both  the Checkup trial and the CNSS with days remaining.

.

Please post back with what you see.

Norton PC Checkup is a FREE tool available from this site: http://www.symantec.com/norton/nortonlive/free-pc-checkup.jsp

And as a free tool, it has no limitation or trial function.

Latest version is 2.0.4.131.

Yank,

There is no place on any of my sites for Norton that has place that you sign in or says my account. I think with the Comcast account, it is just there;  no place does it say to turn on or turn off or anything of that nature.

I have gone thru everything and I have never seen a sign in except when I first downloaded it at Comcast.

I guess I looked at the wrong  Norton PC Checkup 2.5  which says your credit card will be charged.  I should know better and stick to Norton sites for Norton products.  My bad!

Re: 36 DAYS LEFT OF SUBSCRIPTION

moogy,

can you tell me a little bit more how Comcast's NSS works (I'm not a Comcast user, so unfortunately I don't know about it's licensing...):

- do you have to activate it every month?

- do you have any license key (by other Norton products it's a 25 character long key, like a windows install key)?

- do you have to connect to any Comcast site to keep the product activated?

Thanks.

After you download it from the Comcast site, it goes thru the normal Norton activation and remains acitvated as long as you are a Comcast customer (and as long as Comcast offers it free)

.

There is no license key as such.  There is a PIN (same basic idea as the key and is located in the same place.

.

Your PIN number is stored in Norton Security_PIN.txt in the following location:
.
In Windows 7 or Windows Vista: C:\Users\\Documents\Symantec\Norton Security_PIN.txt
.
In Windows XP: C:\Documents and Settings\\My Documents\Symantec\Norton Security_PIN.txt

- do you have to connect to any Comcast site to keep the product activated?

Yes, the download is only attainable from the Comcast site.  You have to sign in with your Primary user name and password in order to gain access to download.

.

Yu can try this link to see if the quick change from McAfee Guide will come up withut you being signed into Comcast.

Thanks.

Also, Comcast users are permitted to download and activate it onto as many as 7 PC (because customers are permitted 7 accounts.  (1 Primary and  6 secondary).

Certain parts of the start-up screen are missing, there is no MY ACCOUNT, FEEDBACK, nor Subscription Days Remaining.

.

The Backup does function and Comccast offers online backup space thru another provider.  See if this works for you.

.

Anymore questions fire away and I'll help as much as I can!

Re: 36 DAYS LEFT OF SUBSCRIPTION

Thanks yank! :)

moogy:

Then the PC Checkup error should be because the different licensing. I would say, that you should just simply ignore it. It's a false detection, as PC Checkup is working prefectly with the "normal" Norton products.

When you install Norton Security Suite, the default subscription days set is around 45 days. When the subscription ends, if you are still a Comcast user, then Norton Security Suite contacts the Comcast server and the remaining subscription days is reset to 45 days. This process continues as long as you are having Comcast as your Sevice provider. This information was once provided in Comcast forums, unfortunately I don't have the link now.

Yogesh you are absolutely correct, but I was under the opinion that once you upgraded to the latest Version, that was fixed.

.

moggy, just for grins, left click on your Help & Support and in the drop down hover over the ABOUT and tell us what version you have displayed.   Version 4.2.0.12 I believe is the latest.  If you do not have it, run a manual Liveupdate until such time as it respnds no more updates available.

Ploease let us know what your Version is and if it changes after updating it.

Re: 36 DAYS LEFT OF SUBSCRIPTION

Hi Yank,

I think, the fix you mentioned above was for the subscription status shown under the Device Details in Network Security Map. In the latest version, it will just show as "Activated". In the background, the sync between Norton Security Suite and Comcast server still happens in order to keep the activation alive. Once you stop the subscription for Comcast, your license to use Norton Security Suite will also get cancelled. You can confirm this in Comcast Forum.

Re: 36 DAYS LEFT OF SUBSCRIPTION

On the old version this bug existed.  I haven't seen it in the new version.

I don't know if you canget to the thread or not, but it is located here.

Re: 36 DAYS LEFT OF SUBSCRIPTION

Back on 8-2-10 I wrote about the 36 days left on my security software subscription, today when the NORTON PC CHECKUP ran, and I checked the results it said I have 55 days left on my subscription.

I AM NOT  experiencing any problems from this, but I am tempted to uninstall this program, but I just posted  this FYI.

Thank you
