360 v3 very slow start up and ccSvcHst hogs CPU

Hi,

I know there are a lot of posts on slow startup but I also have a problem with ccSvcHst using 90% of the CPU doing nothing (well nothing visible to a user anyway) for between 10 and 30 minutes after 360 has started. There were some posts on this for V2 but I couldn't find any for V3.

It seems to eventually settle down and the PC becomes useable - but it repeats on every re-start.

My problems seemed to start after I enabled the online backup (with the icon overlays) - I have now disabled all of this as this is obviously the source of loads of problems.

But the slow starts and ccSvcHst problems remain...  does anyone have any ideas ? Is a re-install of 360 necessary ?

I think NIS2009 may have lulled me into a false belief that Norton products were better now - and I'm regretting upgrading to 360.

System is XP SP3 (fully up to date with patches etc), I also run Firefox 3.5.2 and PC Tools Spyware Doctor.

thanks

Hi

Try Uninstalling Spyware Doctor or Disabling it down at the Systray icon,  In testing awhile ago I found that during startup with both Spyware Doctor and Norton in Realtime the Boot time for everything to load drastically slowed.

Re: 360 v3 very slow start up and ccSvcHst hogs CPU

Hi,

Thanks for the suggestion - I tried this but the speed increase was just the time Spyware Doctor takes to load and the ccSvcHst problem is still there.

I've downloaded the removal tool - so I'm going to try a re-install and see if that helps.

Re: 360 v3 very slow start up and ccSvcHst hogs CPU

Hi,

An update on this - the re-install (with v3.0.0.135 from the download page) has removed both the slow startup issue and the CPU hogging -  I disabled backup as soon as the re-install was up and running which I am assuming is why this is now running ok.

Two things occurred to me regarding this problem to date that might help one of the techie solvers on here -

1) The PC was ok (i.e. no slow start or CPU problem) if I logged on as a non-administrator user.

2) On my laptop I had previously enabled and run the 360 backup successfully (to the online storage).  The laptop was the first installation of my 3 user-licences and has a very similar setup - i.e. XP SP3 and Spyware Doctor.  So far the laptop installation has run ok - with backup turned on.

Are these irrelevant details ?  I thought I'd list them anyway in case they help.

If anyone has any ideas how I might get backup enabled successfully, please let me know

thanks
