4 blank bullet lines added to every initial thread post?

I'm suddenly seeing that 4 blank bulleted lines have been added to every initial thread/post in every forum...

I wonder why?

Also - More wierdness...

Have now twice received a prompt that a "Comment Field" is required.  This prompt seems to lock you into the message editor upon trying to click the editor's "Save" button. To get "free" of this logic loop, I had to navigate completely away from the current forum. Discovered (fortunately,) that upon return to the posting forum that the message had been properly saved...

Based on these quirks, I think it safe to assume that we're on a new release of the Community board...

Cheers!

Hi avjohnnie,

It took a while for the caches to refresh and start using the new CSS.

We *are* working on the issue with the extra spacing below the share widgets ... stay tuned.

Hi Kevin!

When it comes to caching, seems that "timing is everything"...

Thanks again!

P.S., FWIW - I haven't encountered the "Comment Field" prompt loop again either - just the two instances.

Cheers!

Re: 4 blank bullet lines added to every initial thread post?

Hello Kevin

Please get rid of the Facebook, Google and the other 2 thingies. I'm getting the warning that it is only showing the safe content. With the darn warning comes a ding sound which is very annoying when you enter as many threads as I do and post as many times as I do. I clicked on showing all content and it showed 2 more symbols than what John is showing in his screenshot. Is it really necessary to show that stuff on every thread? Those other 2 symbols are unsafe apparently. This is with IE 11 Windows 7 pro 64 bit. Can you make those things smaller so that they don't take away from the importance of the Thread Header. It's right below it and the same size. It also leaves a large empty space until the important things are shown for the thread.

I guess I'm the only one who is having this problem since I haven't seen any one else complain about it. I guess the others are all using Firefox and Chrome or not IE 11...

Or perhaps Norton could add a check box on the Edit tab of our user accounts that allows users to enable/disable sharing on social networking sites, similar to how users can now disable Norton Safe Share in the settings of their Norton Toolbar.

FWIW, I normally use FF as my browser and only see the Facebook and Google Plus buttons, even if I disable my Adblock Plus extension.  My IE9 behaves similarly to floplot's IE11 - the Facebook and Google Plus buttons are always displayed but the Twitter and LinkedIn buttons only appear in IE if I click the "Show All Content" pop-up when I'm warned about insecure content.

Hi Flo -

It might be helpful to Kevin if you were to post a screen capture so he could see what's happening regarding those extra symbols?

Edit: No need for the capture image Flo - I just checked the Community with IE11 and see that besides FB and G+, Twitter and LinkedIn icons are shown as well (with IE)...

Hi all,

This issue has now been resolved.

The library that pulls the share counts from the social sites is now pulling via https.

Apologies for the inconvenience.

Hello Kevin

If those share things have to remain and mess up a thread in my opinion, thank you for making them behave themselves and be safe and quiet.

Hello John

I was seeing what your screen shot was showing with just Google and Facebook showing. I didn't see Twitter and LinkedIn unless I let the unsafe content show which also made it quiet, but then I would have to do that every time I went to a thread.

It looks like Ghostery is working in Firefox.  I'm not seeing that share crap!

I normally subscribe to the default EasyList filter list of Adblock Plus v2.6.9, but I just added Fanboy's Social Blocking List as instructed in the Disable Social Media Buttons section of their Features page and this also blocks these social media buttons on the Norton forum.  You can easily remove this Social Blocking List in your Adblock Plus filter preferences or create an exception for community.norton.com if you want to see the buttons again.

I can't run Ghostery in IE, IE keeps crashing and so does HMP.A.  The developers are looking into it for me though.

Hello Kevin

This link still needs to be fixed so that it shows all the social stuff that you fixed yesterday. Don't know but maybe all of those stickies need the fix you did yesterday.  I know this link for sure does. I didn't check the Blogs if they have that stuff or not. Thanks Kevin.

OK, I came here with IE 11 and won't be using it to come here again.  I DO NOT want or need the share crap!  It was bad enough when they shoved it in our face on the toolbar but they finally allowed us to disable that.

Administrators, please allow us to disable the share 'feature' in our profile.

Thanks.

@bjm_,

I installed a new version of Ghostery [5.0.0.2] their support sent me [the crashes continued] but with ABP + Ghostery the share icons were still visible in IE.  Are they visible for you?  I haven't tried with Chrome yet.

If your reason for posting was to show me Imacri post.  Why ?

Hello bjm

Have you seen the movie Ground Hog Day?   Things keep on getting repeated... Every darn thread is that social share stuff....It's not going to tempt me to use that stuff...We do need something to disable it if we don't want to see it...

Just to check I clicked on lmacri's link again and it still takes me to where you can add that filter.

Just to repeat it  -  https://adblockplus.org/en/features#socialmedia

Disable Social Media Buttons

Buttons to share content on social media platforms such as Facebook, Twitter, Google Plus and many others are placed on almost every website you visit. Even if you are not clicking them, every website containing these buttons is sending a request to the servers of the social network which can use that information to create a profile based on your browsing habits.

You can use Adblock Plus to remove social media buttons from every website, making sure that social networks can’t create a profile about you based on the websites you visit.

To enable this feature now, please open this dialogue and click “Add” to protect yourself against Social Media tracking. If you wish to disable this feature, please read here how to do this.
