6 recent items in identity safe rather than 8

I noticed that Norton is showing 6 recent items rather than 8 in my Norton program.

My other PC (desktop) have 8 recent items listed but my laptop only have 6 listed and it won't go beyond 6.  Is the Norton on my laptop busted?  Everything works OK and I really don't want to re-install.

When in doubt, uninstall / reinstall :smileywink:Windows 7 SP1 (64 bit), Norton Internet Security 2013, Internet Explorer 10, SpywareBlaster

Immediately before the problem I imported a log in list but used replace login rather than merge login.

Re: 6 recent items in identity safe rather than 8

Hi,

When you imported logins to your vault there could some differences in the logins list and the logins which are not available from the previously listed ones will not be shown. That could be the problem for the count 8 being decreased to 6 where 2 logins being replaced from the imported content.

But it should increase when you start browing to newer logins. Just try launching few sites from All Logins list from the same drop down to check if there are any differences. Please note it will take few secs for the list to get refreshed.

Adding to this - the list which is shown is the combination of MRU's and MFU's nothing Most recently used & Most frequently used. When the most frequently used ones are not used for a while and if you have not browsed to any sites the list shown will show fewer number of logins only and its not standard that it should always show 8. There are some calculations which run in the product to show this list.

But this has no relation with the product's health and you need not worry about uninstalling the product and other stufs.

The recently used list does not increase to 8 despite me browsing to various website.  It remains stuck at 6.

Re: 6 recent items in identity safe rather than 8

Hi,

Can you just try to logout and try logging back? Also, the most recently used list gets updated? Like, the first one in the drop keeps updating to the latest one you use? When you it doesn't increase to 8, is the same set of 6 logins retained or it gets updated to new URLs browsed but only 6?

It's the latter. The URL changes but the number won't increase beyond 6.  I've tried logging out and loggin back in.

Re: 6 recent items in identity safe rather than 8

Are the desktop and laptop seeing the same online vault or different ones? If that's the same online vault, then just take a fresh backup  of the vault and delete/reset the vault and recreate a new new online vault and then check the same with the new vault.

Re: 6 recent items in identity safe rather than 8

It's local vault. And yeah, laptop and desktop are seeing different values.

Edit: I have done a complete re-install of Norton and the values are once again at 8.

Can you test the bug where doing a "replace with existing data" causes the value to drop to 6?  I think it maybe a bug.

Hi,

Is it possible to share the video of your browser? We would like to see the reproducibility before we dig further as it is working for us here. So it would help if you can PM the video recording of your browser.

Re: 6 recent items in identity safe rather than 8

I have done a re-install of Norton and that fixed the problem. It is now again at 8.

To reinstall, first I uninstall Norton REMOVE all data (don't save it!).  Then I rebooted the PC.  After that I ran the Norton removal tool and delete the "Norton" and "NortonInstaller" file from C:\programdata.  After doing so, I once again rebooted the PC.  Then I installed Norton Internet Security 2012 from www.norton.com/nis12 and created the local ID Safe.  I imported the logins.  Next, I did an over the top install of Norton Internet Security 2013 from the website www.norton.com/nis13.  I am now running LiveUpdate.

Re: 6 recent items in identity safe rather than 8

To help you replicate the bug, I am using Norton Internet Security 20.3 with Internet Explorer 10. The only fix to the problem is to do a complete re-install of the program without saving the data.
