Abandoned on support - Now what?

Okay…  Since there is no longer a choice on whether or not to upgrade from NIS 2012 to 2013, if you want continued support for web browsers, etc.  I did it.  And for my trouble I’ve been rewarded with a new for me (old for the forums) issue – thank you very much.  There seems to be a disagreement between NIS 2013 and Windows 8 as to whether or not security is enabled.  So – who exactly am I supposed to believe - Microsoft or Symantec?

I know this is a very old problem going all the way back to early 2013 beta testing…  I assumed, unfortunately and erroneously, that it had been addressed by now – but alas, just like the online vault issue(s) it obviously has not…

So now what?

Hi avjohnnie,

We won't be able to see your image until it's approved.

As you probably know, there is a problem with W8 recognising that Norton is working.  If Norton says it is and you see the green Secure, than rest assured that it is OK.  The problem isn't just with Norton, other AV's have this problem too.  Symantec, in this case, and Microsoft are said to be working on the problem.

I hope that helps.

Dave

Re: Abandoned on support - Now what?

Thanks Dave,

And I really do appreciate the response - but the fact remains, NIS 2012 does not have this issue... and I know from my own testing that the main competition doesn't either.  I will try doing the NRT / Reinstall cycle as a corrective test, but only for self edification for future encounters for helping others.  I simply refuse to trade one issue (program intercommunication) for another (dysfunctional online vault).

Kind Regards Dave,

Still Abandoned

Re: Abandoned on support - Now what?

If you are referring to support for FF, at this time, there is still support. See Mohan's post here noting the support for versions 19.x.x.x.

Things happen. Export/Backup your Norton Password Manager data.

Thanks for the response Peter; No – this is the Chrome issue that was fixed with a patch for Symantec 2013 users but remains unresolved for Symantec 2012 users.

BTW, and FWIW; uninstalling 2013 via the Win CP; then using NRT (which as it turned out created some consequential registry damages on the systems on which it was used) then reinstalling the 2013 version corrected the WIN-8/Symantec Framework intercommunication error.  Unfortunately doing this kills the option for a local vault.  So we are now done – No more Symantec security solutions for our company and our clients on any/all similarly afflicted Windows 8 based systems.

Thus far the competition’s solution seems a reliable substitute and allows for the operational/functional criteria we require.

Kind Regards,

John
