About the acquisition of PC Tools...

Hi! So, pretty much everyone knows that Symantec has acquired PC Tools to use their technology I think. The famous creators of Spyware Doctor. Norton Utilities was recently released, Symantec is using the ThreatExpert db and a dev. of TF gave information to questions here in the official Symantec Forums. As a follow up, I would like to ask some questions regarding this acquisition: 1. Will PC Tools and their products always be left alone? 2. What is Norton Utilities a variant of? Registry Mechanic and Desktop Maestro, just RM, or a combination? Is there something new in Norton Utilities that doesn't exist in either RM or DM? 3. Will we see technologies like those of TF, Spyware Doctor, AntiVirus, Firewall plus and Browser Defender to name a few examples, implemented into the next version of Norton (2010 edition)? - And last, but not least a general question not directly related to the acquisition, but to simply get them all in one topic: 4. Will other browsers like Opera, Safari, Chrome, etc. get support in the next edition (2010) from all the browser related protection features of Norton? If you're wondering why I don't use paragraphs, it's simply because it's a pain in the *** with an unsupported browser like Opera - which I'm using. Thx for any information! :)

Re: About the acquisition of PC Tools...

Hmm... for some reason I can't edit or remove my previous message, but what I'll do now as I've began to run a supported browser (CometBird, as it's almost completely based on FF) is that I'll post my message with paragraphs and stuff. Must've been a pain to read before...

Here it goes :) :

Re: About the acquisition of PC Tools...

Thanks for the clearer post! Unfortunately, most of your questions have to do with future plans that have yet to be publically announced so I don't think that we'll be able to help you :(

Thx for the information. Would you be able to come back here when you know more about the questions?

The ability to edit times out after 1 hour. I don't know that we ever had the ability to delete our own messages but I'll check after posting this <g>

No we don't, or at least I don't see the option.

Think you're right about the deleting thing... recall I've noticed that before, plus edited posts (deletion), but wasn't completely sure. ;)

Post moved to a new thread for better exposure.

What are you refering to? :S I only see one post there not directly related to what I'm asking, and I don't see that post being moved to here.

Hi RavenMacDaddy,

Is your question about why I moved one of the posts to a new thread? If it is then, I moved it to help facilitate discussions pertaining to SD and NIS 09. That way, it will help people join new discussions on SD and NIS as well as track problems and answer questions better.

Sorry if I misunderstood your question.

Oh, oh - that clears things up. I was just not thinking right at the moment, now I know what that post meant. :)
