Access to default gateway is blocked

Hi - I hope somebody out there can suggest a solution.

I have a Windows 10 machine (pre-loaded, not a Windows upgrade) and have installed Norton 360. Whilst I can access Internet via a browser my other network devices are blocked (NAS drive and Wi-Fi printer). I have discovered that the PC will not connect to the default gateway (and thus not connect to any other devices). Does anyone know of a Norton setting that would cause this? I have switched all the Norton settings to 'off' but still cannot access the gateway. When I reboot the PC I can initially ping the gateway but after a very short time I get a 'general failure' message, this appears to be when Norton has gone through all of its rules, etc.

Has anyone seen this behaviour before or suggest which setting should be changed?

Thanks.

Re: Access to default gateway is blocked

Try power cycling your router and modem.

Then restart Windows, not shutdown and start up again. If you use Windows 8/8.1 or 10, there can be an issue with the Fast Start feature.. See more information here.

Things happen. Export/Backup your Norton Password Manager data.

Re: Access to default gateway is blocked

Thanks for the advice. I believe this has slightly improved matters in that the initial ping request lasts longer then before (117 successful replies before getting 'general failure'). In the Windows Network view there appears to be a resolution issue - Windows cannot access \\personalcloud.

Re: Access to default gateway is blocked

Hello

Did your Window 10 computer come with any trial versions of any security programs?

If they did, those other security programs would have to be removed using the removal tools from those other companies. Do you have any other routers installed?

Have a Nice Day and

Thanks.

Success always occurs in private and failure in full view. Windows 7 Pro 64 bit NSBU 22.17.0.183 Core Firmware 282 I E 11 Chrome latest version.

Try reinstalling the software for your NAS and Wifi Printer.

Re: Access to default gateway is blocked

It's definitely a Norton issue.

1. Uninstalled Norton (including Restart)

2. Flushed DNS

3. Power down and switch on

4 Run Ping to the default gateway - successfully running for 45 minutes and I can access the NAS via File Explorer.

However, with Norton installed access to the gateway and NAS stops when Norton is fully loaded - does anyone know if one of the end firewall rules or processes could be causing this?

Make sure your Network Trust level in Norton Firewall settings is set to Full Trust or Private.
