Activity Logs Show Incorrect Times

I'm using Online Family with NIS. When I check activity logs for my daughter's computer, all activity times are listed as +7 hours from our local Pacific Daylight Time, which corresponds to GMT (universal) time.  I have already had THREE lengthy sessions with Norton chat line techs - and nobody seems to have a clue about how to fix this problem.

I have reinstalled the Online Family monitoring software on my daughters computer and it had no effect. I have also checked that the computer clocks are set correctly - and they all were OK.

Oddly, this behavior is erratic and randomly goes away. Sometimes I check activity logs and they read the correct local time. The next time I log in, it might be reading +7 hours again!

I've read the other threads here on the forum and made sure that the web and time monitoring are both "ON" in my settings, and they always were. The problem occurs no matter what.

I believe this is a higher-level problem Norton is having with overseas servers not properly converting times back to the local users. I would like to see Norton acknowledge that this is an ongoing issue, and that engineers are looking into this on a higher level than the chat  technicians are able to resolve.

Otherwise, the program works as expected, it is a great tool. I'm just frustrated and disappointed that I constantly have to do mental time conversions when reading the activity logs.

Re: Activity Logs Show Incorrect Times

As mentioned in the NOF website, all data are saved in the US. When the NOF webservers present the activities to parents, the activity time is ajusted to the local browser timezone. So the issue could be that it failed to detect the browser timezone sometime.

Which browser are you using to see the activiites? and what is time zone setting, in Windows, it is in your regional setting..

Re: Activity Logs Show Incorrect Times

I'm using the latest version of  Internet Explorer as my browser over Vista . As I mentioned in my previous post, my computer clock time settings are CORRECT, and are set to Pacific Time. Since we are still on daylight saving, the +7 hours of the NOF time logs corresponds to GMT (Universal) time.

It's obvious that the server is not recognizing what my local time zone is, and then appears to default to GMT. Since I've read of other people having the same problem, perhaps Nortons engineers need to look into what is causing this issue? A small bug in the program or the server protocols, perhaps?

Why doesn't somebody at Symantec elevate this issue up to a higher technical level, since nobody in the trenches can seem to explain how to fix it?

Re: Activity Logs Show Incorrect Times

Hi Diogenio,

Thanks for the update.  Do you have any software, like internet timer installed on the PC?  I assume the kid and you are in the same time zone.

We have been working on this and trying to reproduce the issue, but had no luck so far.  That's why we are trying to get some details from you.

Thanks,

Katie

Katie:

No internet timers are installed on either computer.

Yes, my daughter and I are both in the same time zone (live in the same house) and share the same internet connection. Her computer, the monitored one, is running XP and my machine is running Vista. Both machines have NIS 2010 installed.

It does not matter which machine I log into to view the activity logs; I get the same time-shift problem when viewing on either computer.

The case number I had opened (now closed) at Symantic tech support is 501899433.
