Add Page Numbers For Private Messages

In the Forums, you have the Page Numbers from 1 to 101 at the bottom of the Forum Pages and in User Threats, which are also at the Top of the Page as well as the Bottom; why can't that be Added for P.M.s?  This would enable Users to go from Page 1 to Page 5 without having the Click the "Next Page" button to get all the way to Page 5.

Re: Add Page Numbers For Private Messages

I think the page numbers are the wrong way round. I'm listed with the most recent at the top and it shows Page 1; Page 2 is earlier and so on. I think it should be the other way round with the latest messages on the highest numbered page ....

Not too keen on the left right arrows only being visible when the mouse pointer is over them. I don't see any advantage of this and if you don't see them you don't know they are there to hold you mouse pointer over themd.

Sorry .....

Firstly: I have the Most Recent Messages on Page One, which I find correct as what's the point going through all the Pages to find your New Message(s).

On Page One, the Arrows pointing to the Left I can see, but the ones to the Right I can't see, and didn't even know they were there until Hugh here pointed that out; however, when I go on to Page Two, the Left ones disappear and I cannot see any Arrow un-less I put my Mouse over them, which is pretty pointless as they should be visible all the time.

One can argue it both ways:

as it is reflects the Forums if you tell them to put most recent messages at the top

or

most recent messages are on the highest page number since that's what happens when you write them down

But of course I was implying that the highest number would be the one that showed as default and if you wanted earlier you went to a lower page number.

The main advantage of Highest = most recent is that you can use the page numbers as a locator -- Ah it is on Page 9 -- and if you can't do that then there seems little point in having page numbers at all!

FWIW Just my POV

Re: Add Page Numbers For Private Messages

The ordering is to be consistent with the rest of the forum.

The arrows do seem to be a bit buggy, we will get that fixed.

Re: Add Page Numbers For Private Messages

Consistency is a virtue ..... provided it's on the right choice!

The same problem exists with page numbers in the Forums -- they can't be used to locate a message or thread especially when the threads move around.

So really there is no virtue in having page numbers despite the initial request here.

Why not -- it depends on what's in them does it not? <s>

Re: Add Page Numbers For Private Messages

If I may mo,

The private message feature has come in handy in a few ways for myself.

Topics not directly related to any of the forum topics or discussions allow me to discuss or notify a particular user. (The other day I was conversing with someone about their signature).

Issues that are related to Symantec but do not fit into any existing forum can be addressed to individual users.

It's yet another way that allows me to organise certain discussions and such.

Plus Symantec staffers may wish an easy forum-related area to communicate about products, etc.

To name a few. Plus I can't think of any others at the moment :)  Gotta go, dinner is awaiting and I don't have a bowl of cat chow that is there all the time! :)

Take care,

PM always open. I can't teach our cats to open the door so I cannot guarentee any answers are available.
