Adobe flash - is it safe?

Is Adobe Flash player safe to use?  - version 18...203.  I need it for BBC I-Player unfortunately.

Yes, but make sure you download Adobe Flash Player from the developer's site.

https://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/

Also, watch for boxes to uncheck for any extras Adobe include with the download.  Most people will not want the extras.

A little bit of knowledge is... well a little bit of knowledge.

Flash Player is by definition unsafe.

Best practice is to use it, (latest version), only on well known sites. (on-demand, which is easy for FF but tedious with IE, you have to manually enable/disable the shockwave add-on each time/session).

Adobe updates FP about 12-15 times each year, new versions and/or sub-versions so the source code will always be prone to vulnerabilities...

Well, I'm sandboxed with drop rights and I block Player Internet Access.
That may help a little.  And HMP.A

203 is current, but a new hole, a zero-day vulnerability, has already been found.  Adobe plans to issue another patch next week.

While it might be possible to get along without Flash Player, many websites do require it to view content.  Using something like NoScript in Firefox to block Flash content by default on all but selected trusted sites is probably the best insurance to stay safe.

To clarify, when I said Adobe Flash Player was safe, I meant it is safe to download.  I should of added it is not considered secure.

Re: Adobe flash - is it safe?

Hello

The current version is now 18.0.0.209. Although FF does block it, if you come to a site that uses Flash, there is a notice that tells you it has blocked the site, but you can allow once or allow permanently. So there is a way out of it for those users who still prefer to use it.

Microsoft has so far omitted the usual update for Firefox from Windows Update also.

Success always occurs in private and failure in full view. Windows 7 Pro 64 bit NSBU 22.17.0.183 Core Firmware 282 I E 11 Chrome latest version.
