After 22.7.0.75 update Windows 7 Action Center reports that Norton is OFF

The title, says everything.

It's similar to the issue here: https://community.norton.com/en/forums/windows-action-center-saying-norton-not-running-after-227075-update

For the moment I have disabled Windows 7 monitoring for Firewall, Spyware/Virus and Network protection because they are all red.

Is there a way to fix it or should we wait for a patch from Symantec??

Thanks.

Re: After 22.7.0.75 update Windows 7 Action Center reports that Norton is OFF

Same issue.  Yesterday, I installed something like 17 Microsoft patches.  While I was at it, checked Norton Internet Security for updates.  Updated to 22.7.0.75.  Action Center lit up red on Spyware/Unwanted software, Virus Protection,  and Firewall.  Uninstalled NIS, rebooted, rebooted again, went to upgradecenter.norton.com and selected V20 as product so that it would download the latest version.  Performed install.  No issues with Action Center.  Ran LiveUpdate repeatedly until it said no more updates.  Action Center lit up again.  From Action Center, attempt to turn on NIS, which of course is already on.  Will not turn on, update button is greyed out.  Win 7 Pro x64.  On another computer running Win 7 Pro x86, installed all MS Patches and upgraded NIS completely without issue.  Action Center is fine.

Same issue, windows 7 did the live update now all boxes have a red tick telling me norton is not running.

Re: After 22.7.0.75 update Windows 7 Action Center reports that Norton is OFF

Same here.  50+mb update, restart, NIS slow to start, and finally Windows 7 Action Center reports both spyware and virus protection off.  NIS says its on..

Re: After 22.7.0.75 update Windows 7 Action Center reports that Norton is OFF

Well, I guess this isn't just a NIS/N360 issue then, as it's affecting the folks who has NS as well.

What sort of bothers me is I felt that this new version update should have been V23, and NOT 22.7.  If it was V23 by turning off the auto download of new versions, we wouldn't be forced with this update.

But, since it's listed as V22.7 you can't stop the update.  It seems like a sneaky way to force a major update ... and I consider it major as it was going through beta testing

Re: After 22.7.0.75 update Windows 7 Action Center reports that Norton is OFF

Same problem for me (windows7 home italian/NS english), the Action center report 2 errors, but clicking to fix just display a window that run WSCstub.exe with no action both for virus protection and Spyware protection were the list has 2 choice, Norton and Defender, choosing Norton no change....

We will wait for a fix....

Also affecting vista.

The ad for this new update does not include support for vista.

A temporary fix mentioned on another thread, is to right click the norton icon and disable the smart firewall and auto protect, then re-enable them.

It removes the red flags but they will reappear on restart.

Re: After 22.7.0.75 update Windows 7 Action Center reports that Norton is OFF

The very same problem after Norton live update. I have just installed 10 important windows updates and thought that this might solve the problem but sadly no. I'm on Windows 7. I just need confirmation that my NIS is doing its job. I'm so pleased I'm not the only one.

That's great! ... a known issue with the beta ... but still launch anyway and force it upon everyone.  Obviously there was a launch date to hit and testing wasn't going to get in the way

Running Windows 7 Pro Sp1 x64

Update 22.7.0.75 auto updated this morning.

Norton program shows as all OK and protected however upon reboot Windows 7 Action Center says that Spyware Protection, Virus Protection, and Network Firewall are TURNED OFF.

Rebooted again but no change - manual options buttons to tell windows to turn on these protections do not respond.

Norton program continues to show all OK - running Help>Support says all OK.

Pls advise if I am protected or not!!

Many others with the same issue, norton don`t seem to be very interested.

A temporary fix..If you right click the norton icon on the taskbar, disable auto protect and smart firewall, then re-enable them, the flags will vanish, but will reappear on restart.

I contacted CS via Chat; recommended an uninstall and then reinstall. It worked. Too bad "their bug" caused

me work! BTW, another device (same OS, Win 7 Pro) is A-OK after a Live update; a third device with Win 10 Pro, is A-OK after a Live Update. Go figure?)

Have you restarted the system since re-installing?

I did a total uninstall and thought it had solved the issue, but after a couple of restarts the problem returned.

davey, I assume your comment was to Richard as yes, I have restarted my computer since the upgrade install - that is when the Windows Action Center went all "red".

Re: After 22.7.0.75 update Windows 7 Action Center reports that Norton is OFF

davey00 & Lexus2456, I have restarted my system twice since the  download/reinstall, and all remains well...so far. I see a fix is being phased out to users via Live Update by Norton...

Re: After 22.7.0.75 update Windows 7 Action Center reports that Norton is OFF

Yes it was to richard as he has done the complete uninstall.

If you try the temporary trick i posted above it will remove those red flags, but they will return on restart.

Folks -- I have this issue as well.  My system is Windows 7 Pro Sp1 x64.

I just had a chat with Symantec support and below is their response:

"We are aware of the issue and Norton have identified a cause for this issue and we are working on releasing a fix through Liveupdate, it will be released within a week. It will not impact the security of the PC and you can continue using the device as usual."

"Your computer is protected by Norton. The only issue is with the updates and Windows Action Center."

Re: After 22.7.0.75 update Windows 7 Action Center reports that Norton is OFF

The problem update has been removed from the live update

If you uninstall your product and reinstall you will get the previous version without all the problems.

Easier than waiting a week for a fix.

Kudos0

Re: After 22.7.0.75 update Windows 7 Action Center reports that Norton is OFF

yeh, as davey00 says, do the uninstall and reinstall and you will get the previous earlier updated version (after going through 'live update'), this I did and it works okay and yes wait for the 'fixed update'.

Hi Everyone,

The Norton 22.7 product update has been pulled from the LiveUpdate server and is no longer available for download.

Symantec is working on the issue where the “Windows Action Center incorrectly reports the Norton Security status” and we will update the forum thread once we have any updates on an ETA for a release with a fix. This issue does not impact the security of the pc as long as the Norton product reports its features are enabled.

Update:

Customers who have already received the Norton 22.7 update do NOT need to uninstall and reinstall the previous version. Symantec is working on a fix to be released shortly to address the issue where "Windows Action Center incorrectly reports the Norton Security status." This issue does not impact the security of the pc as long as the Norton product reports its features are enabled.

Re: After 22.7.0.75 update Windows 7 Action Center reports that Norton is OFF

Hello everybody & especially to the Norton Staff Admin,

I'm not a computer-expert nor a novice but I found the solution to this issue after 1-day search
The problem is that the upgrade to 22.7.0.75 leaves 2 services active that doesn't exist anymore in the new version. The product works fine as the Norton Staff says, but it gives 2 false positives to the Windows Action/security center in my WIN7x64 (due to false links in the registry).
Solution:
1) cross out Norton Tamper Protection in Settings for 15 minutes
2) go to the Device Manager
3) put on "Show Hidden Devices"
4) go to Drivers Not-Plug&Play Compatible and DELETE this 2 remainders of the former version : NAVENG en NAVEX15
5) Restart your PC
6) Put on the Norton Tamper Protection (it will do so automatically)
NS works fine & also the Windows Action/Security center !!
Success everyone, and I hope for a nomination from Norton - I have to renew my licence within due time , ha ha , got the hint, my friends !!

ITMA.
Tried the W7/64 fix as above, on my Vista32.
Still giving 'Security Center' RED & GREEN anomalies.

Confirmed NIS, not NS, still working with:-
'GET SUPPORT' ¦ OK, 'QUICK SCAN' ¦ OK , 'FULL SCAN' ¦ OK, 'NPE': UNWANTED . . .' ¦ OK, NPE': SYSTEM SCAN' ¦ OK,
CHECKED: 'TASK MANAGER' ¦ OK, CHECKED: 'DEVICE MANAGER' ¦ OK, CHECKED: 'SERVICES' ¦ OK.
The original 'QUICK FIX', still works. Disconnect Internet, Auto-Protect/Firewall - OFF/ON, Reconnect Internet.

Hi Everyone,

A new build of Norton 22.7.0.76 product update has been posted back to the Live Update servers. This patch update addresses the issue where the Windows Action Center incorrectly reports the Norton Security status. This update is available via Live Update and is being released in a phased manner. Please run Live Update until all updates are installed and then check if the issue is resolved.

Re: After 22.7.0.75 update Windows 7 Action Center reports that Norton is OFF

Just did, no change. But I found that if I disable auto-protect, and attempt to "turn on" Norton Security in the Security Center, it re-enables auto-protect and the warning in Security Center goes away for AV, anti-spyware, etc. Firewall warning also goes away if I repeat the process for the smart firewall.

Let's hope Windows stays happy like this.

Re: After 22.7.0.75 update Windows 7 Action Center reports that Norton is OFF

I recommend you to completely remove your current Norton Security version (incl. personal settings & preferably also remainder maps which are not uninstalled by windows & greyed-out Symantec-drivers in the "not plug&play section" after reboot) and do a fresh install of the newest version 22.7.0.76 you can download in your own language at http://norton.com/latestns .
This should definitely solve this Windows Security center issue.
Best of luck, Rik
