Amazon Echo

I had a lot of difficulty setting up Core, but ultimately got it working with 3 android devices (two phones and a tablet), a Windows 10 laptop, a Windows 7 home premium desktop, and an HP z1 workstation running Windows 7 Pro.  I have an Amazon Echo which worked fine with a Centurylink C2100T DSL router.  I disabled its wireless function when I set up the Norton Core.  Since then I cannot get an internet connection to the Echo.  I have tried uninstalling and re-installing the Alexa App, rebooting my smartphone, rebooting Core, and all the other usual bag of tricks to no avail.  All without luck.

Re: Amazon Echo

Hello Dwayne. Does the Echo even show up as having connected to the Core via you app?

Re: Amazon Echo

No. I just get an error message that it cannot connect to the internet.  I have the Alexa App on my Samsung phone, which will connect to the Echo, which then instructs me to enter my user name and password for the Core network.  After a few minutes I get the message that it can't connect.

Re: Amazon Echo

Dwayne you should ONLY have to tell the ECHO what network you are connecting to and provide that connection password. Not Core account name and password. Connect the Echo through Core onto its network. After which you can use the Alexa App to control the Echo. Hope that makes sense. A screenshot would work wonders. Here is how to post one. https://community.norton.com/en/forums/how-post-image-forums-0

Re: Amazon Echo

I finally got Echo to work, but I don't really know how.  I decided to try setting it up on my guest network, which has a longer password, with the same initial results -- an error message that it could not connect to the internet.  Thinking that part of the problem might be the auto-correct option for the smart phone keyboard, I started turning off those options while sitting at my desk.  Then Alexa suddenly connected, and followed my voice commands. So, in a sense, this solves the thread. But I don't have a clue about why or how.

Re: Amazon Echo

That is what I was doing -- selecting a network and entering its password -- just misstated it in my post.  See my post below -- maybe I should have just waited for a while longer after it told me it couldn't connect.  Whatever, it is working and my guest network is for indefinite time.

Re: Amazon Echo

Dwayne here are the instructions from Amazon on reconnecting the Echo to another network.

Re: Amazon Echo

Good news all around. MannyT has the link I omitted from my last post which will explain what I was getting at. Kudos MannyT.
