Annoying check marks on desktop files

Several weeks ago I turned on the backup feature of Norton Security (Windows 8).  The green check-marks appeared on my file labels.  I find these annoying, and I turned off backup (I think) but the blue or green labels persist.  Suggestions?  I'm backing up to an external disk instead.

Re: Annoying check marks on desktop files

Hi, Alan895. If you go to Settings/Under Quick Controls, uncheck Backup Status Overlays.

Re: Annoying check marks on desktop files

I have Norton Security (2016) without a 'Backup' or 'Backup Status Overlays' option under Quick Controls.
Used to have Norton 360. How do I get rid of these checkmarks? I also get the 'x' on icons
A screen refresh works to clear all back to normal but would like to stop whatever process is creating these.

The round checkmarks look more lime Dropbox or Mozy.
