Anti Spam

How is turning off Anti-Spam can reduce security of my computer?  I don't even use an email client!!!

Hi Wikipedian,

 

The answer is present in your query itself. If you don't use email client, there is no chance for any spam email to get downloaded in your computer. So, turning on/off AntiSpam has nothing to do with the security of your computer. AntiSpam is only useful when you use any email client.

But everytime I try to turn it off Norton says it "reduces the protection of your computer".

That's only because Norton is used to machines using mail clients

If you are using NIS 2009/2010, you can ignore that status of disabled AntiSpam component. As Stu posted above, AntiSpam is a critical component for those using Email Clients.  For Norton, AntiSpam should be enabled for providing the complete protection irrespective of whether you are using any email client or not. I'm not sure why you want to keep it disabled when you don't even use any Email client.
