Anti-virus definitions are now available daily

hi everyone--

We are now publishing new virus definition updates every day of the week.  The product automatically checks every Friday for new defs but you can schedule daily checks if you like via the scheduler within the application.

This applies to all of our antivirus products, including Symantec AntiVirus for Mac and previous versions of Norton AntiVirus for Mac OS X.

Thanks!

Re: Anti-virus definitions are now available daily

Hi, mikeromo,

I noticed!  What's the reason behind Releasing Mac Norton/symantec Anti-Virus Definitions Daily?  And how many times-a-day are they being Released?

Re: Anti-virus definitions are now available daily

Well, honestly, we wanted to leverage the infrastructure we offer to our Windows customers, and since they were already publishing daily, it just made sense to followthrough on the Mac side.  Right now we are doing them at least once a day, unless there's an emergency, then we'll add extra updates.

Just part of the service, really!

have a good weekend,

mike

So it had nothing to do with more Threats being Created for Macs?

And do Mac customers get all the Modified Threats in the Certified Definitions - Detections' Added (http://www.symantec.com/business/security_response/definitions/certified/index.jsp)?

Thank-you!  Have a good weekend yourself!

Re: Anti-virus definitions are now available daily

Mike,

Is this move by Norton associated with continuing LiveUpdate errors by many Mac OS X 10.5.7 users? Although LiveUpdate cannot connect on its own (in my case and many others), at least a daily update will allow me and others to manually install and stay current with virus definitions, rather than the usual once/week postings...

Re: Anti-virus definitions are now available daily

Why are the daily updates (at least for the few so far since last week) very large (75+ Mb), while during installation, only a small portion (80Kb to 120Kb) is installed from the file download to "update" Norton for Mac? Is it just my computer (MacBook Pro / OS X 10.5.7) and Norton 11.0?

Why can't the "updates" be the small necessary file(s) and not an entire package of files not necessary for upgrading day to day?
